Improv Everywhere causes scenes of chaos and joy in public places. Created in August of 2001 by Charlie Todd, Improv Everywhere has executed over 50 missions involving hundreds of undercover agents. The group is based in New York City.

Brilliant.

Read about their most recent mission (http://www.improveverywhere.com/mission_view.php?mission_id=57).

So rad.

haha yea, I read about that a few weeks ago, good stuff. The reactions of some of the employees is priceless

I laughed at the mission until I read the reflections and comments.

The participants ended up being the most entertained. It was also frustrating to read some of the elitist attitudes toward people working in retail.

All in all, this was the kind of mission that makes people dismiss IE as a bunch of pranksters, and that's sorta sad.

That's probably my favorite work of theirs :)

Elitest attitudes towards retail employees? I didn't catch any of that at all.

As far as IE goes, to me, it just sounds like a group where people can organize themselves to do something different that is 'out of the norm' by creating a harmless, yet odd situation for parties involved. Seems like people enjoy it due to the wide variety of reactions they get with the addition of being able to play a role by acting a certain part creating a neat little story to share and memory to have in the future.

The initial reflections on the page were spot-on and the usual for an IE event. In the comments following the reflections, a few of the agents (I'm presuming newcomers) had some less than stellar ideas to add on (the phrase retail drone or career loser get tossed around a few times by participants and not just board warriors). The thread itself over there has ballooned into a clusterfuck. While most of the vets had observed that they understood why they were being recieved as they were, a lot of the newbies were just being dismissive that a retail chain might have legit worries.

I'm stoked that DB members (myself included) are fans of performance art, but I think this wasn't the best example of what groups like Improv Everywhere or Invisible Theatre can do. I laughed my ass off, don't get me wrong...but I put this mission only a step or so above the level of "Punk'd"
