from the FAQ:
The penalty for death is time. For PvP deaths, there will be no stat, money, item or experience loss, only the time it takes you to get back to the action. For PvE, nothing is 100% confirmed yet but Mythic has said they don't plan on having exp or money penalties.

You're right - there is no penalty for death in a PvP area, but there is reward for the person getting that kill. It promotes PvP with incentives and doesn't discourage the players who can't handle loss. I would rather populated over underpopulated in a "hardcore" PvP system. Yeah it might be carebear whatever... look how well DAoC did with that system - still one of the top ranked MMOs after 5 years.
AoC looks good, but WAR is good.

I like the look of WAR a lot ... but what we all learned from WOW is that you can't have meaningful PVP unless there is a detriment for the losing side. Just doesn't work. It becomes an endless zerg rush of the same guys over and over again. No way to hold any position because they just respawn and come back at you. When there's loss associated with the PvP death ppl realize "hey we can't beat them, I don't want to lose anything more, I better just come back later after they leave". And that's how every scenario and argument is handled, through PvP, clear victor, clear loser.

This is the problem though - you said it yourself right here... the players will leave. The ones who are pussy will quit, and you are left to play with yourself (take that how you want ;P ).
Instead they offer rewards to the winning players, and the losers keep coming back to feed you more "fame", but you always have PvP and people to fight against. There is also a variety or PvP in WAR, and you are engaged in open field skirmishes more often as you gain higher lvls etc.

...and for the record WoW doesn't have real PvP!

I killed thousands and thousands of fags in WoW, but it never meant shit because all you could ever do was brag about it. It was like farming faction ... had no point. If I wanted to just kill people, I would go play an FPS. Its more about being able to force your will upon others than anything else. And you can't do that unless they feel the loss.

Gonna have to agree with Arkons, no incentive to PvP= Not for Darkenbane. This guild doesn't need to do a nosedive into a nother time consuming MMO, only to have it Gayed up as soon as it goes live. It starts with no coin loot, after the first patch there is not time loss for PvP b/c the fags bitch about it and don't want to pay to play it. Then it'll be as gay as WoW.

Agreed, there has to be a penalty for dieing in pvp. The harsher the better...

There is plenty of incentive as I have said before - just not a penalty. You can't even compare it to that gayness you have been playing. If you wanted you can PvP all the way to cap lvl. No need for quests or PvE.
And I hate to be the bearer of bad new bud, but all MMOs are time consuming.

Anywho I'm not here to convince any of you that its going to be the best thing since sliced bread, just think that you should keep your eyes on this one and perhaps take a look at it in OB at the least... who knows you might even get rolled nubs! :rolleyes:

Age of Conan is gonna be cooler imo.. just the gameplay style is much more FPS like which imo is gonna require more skill to actally kill people.

Being that PvP is a cult in Vanguard, I was very surprised there was no stiff death penalty for dying.

That is about the stupidest design decision ever. Since the entire playerbase is from early Rallos Zek.

What the fuck were they thinking. Did they really think people were looking for no-penalty pvp? Well at least the classes kick ass.

How is that any difference from honor system / arena rewards etc.?

AOC = FFA server with item loot is way way better than some crappy incentive system that makes PvP akin to farming for faction.

Truthfully, there's plenty of technical work going on.

The last two patches rendered the game almost unplayable on my system (Premature adoption of Vista ftl).

On the PvP front, there's a lot of EQ/DAoC style gate camping going on, and there's a lot of debate on how to handle it. Fights themselves are actually pretty satisfying, but at the moment the focus seems to be on fixing the technical issues with newer systems. The phoned-in "solution" in the short-term has been to add objectives that are WAY too reminiscent of Plaguelands/Silithus points in WoW.

The good part is, as the devs are fixing more technical shit, they're taking a greater interest in what players are saying.

One thing being looked at is the way seige weaponry is being implemented.

The devs don't want to be tagged with making "DAoC 2" so they're trying very hard to not put in DAoC ideas (ie Keeps). I think if they want to keep objectives as a part of PvP/RvR, they have to become more meaningful than "Hold this for 5 minutes and you can farm better!"

Does Mythic notify you if you're denied into the closed beta? My beta center application status is "Applied". Does it stay like that indefinitely if you're denied or will it actually change to "Denied."?
