The University of Michigan has published their findings on the latest research that has been carried out in regards to a link between violence and video games.
Apparently, scientists have concluded that one of the biggest factors for the causes and consequences of aggressive behaviour is repeated exposure to violent TV shows and video games. Amazingly, they state that these mediums cause more aggressive behaviour than living in poverty, being abused by parents, or using substances. Even more shocking, is the fact that violence on our screens leading to real life aggression is more likely than second hand smoke causing lung cancer, according to Brad Bushman, a professor of psychology and communications studies and a research associate at the U-M Institute for Social Research (ISR).
However, in terms of computer games, WoW World Of Warcraft isn't by any means one of the main culprits. The findings state that First Person Shooter games are the worst for influencing aggression.
“Playing video games, particularly first-person shooter games, may be much more dangerous than watching violent television shows or movies,” says Bushman.
