Do something violent and then blame video games. It seems that this trend is catching up fast! Beijing News is reporting that a 17-year-old Chinese boy burned his classmate and then blamed the massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG), World of Warcraft for his misdeeds.
According to the story on the Beijing news, the teenager thought he was a Fire Mage and filled a water bottle with fuel and doused the victim in fuel before setting him alight.
The victim received burns to 55% of his body, including third-degree burns on 38% of his body. The teenager has subsequently received a jail sentence of 8 years and his accomplice received 7 years. Both families of the perpetrators have also been ordered to pay 760,000 RM to the victim's family.
This is one crazy world we live in and these tragic stories highlight the fact that younger players should be monitored by parents who are liekly to intervene when their child shows signs of losing grip on reality.
