Funcom has announced that the population of Hyboria will grow by 50,000 starting May first as that is the date that the open beta for Age of Conan will begin.

50.000 aspiring barbarians may enter Hyboria on May 1st 2008.

Funcom, Eidos and IGN are proud to announce that Open Beta for Age of Conan will start on May 1. The Open Beta will be hosted exclusively by IGN’s popular game download site, FilePlanet.com, as well as being offered through partner IGN sites such as Gamespy.com, Tentonhammer.com and Warcry.com. The application pages at FilePlanet.com are now open for registrations, and gamers from across the world can sign up. As 50.000 gamers prepare their Hyborian assault, rivers of blood are about to flow, and it’s exclusively available through FilePlanet and IGN partner sites.

So rum and snatchez both got in the pvp beta this weekend. SO i was pissed cause i had no email, but apparantly i got accepted cause when i went to the site where their emails directed them, i had a beta key there ready and waiting for me. So no i am finally downloading just hoping it will be working in time. Sadly multiple people have told me its a different client than the tech/general beta.

My wife and I are going to play, and we have a database of about 150 hard core gamers waiting from the guild i lead on vanguard for me to say if we remake a guild on aoc. Been doing a bit of a news letter. Vanguard is more dead then Skeletore's Pet on eq1. Are people gonna play this? Im gonna come in with a quick and dirty attitude and just try and have some fun.

Im definatly intrested in playing, but im becoming extremly weary on dropping $50 dollars on the next p.o.s. unfinished game that some developer pushed out the door see HELOLGAte london,vanguard, an any other random mmo ive wasted time in over the last couple of years.

I havent been lucky enough to get in to any of the beta tests so the only opinion i have of the game is what ive read on the forums an such.

There is also random Darkenbane / Darworth saying how terribad the game is. <They are usually right btw> so im really torn with AoC.

Another scary thing is I havent seen any coverage about the game in any of the magazines that i suscribe too, besides the games for windows adds and random advertisements. No news is good news????? i doubt it :[

Im sure ill be bored with Titan Quest, by the time AoC comes out so ill end up playin im just praying its not complete trash. WTB DIABLO 3 pst<<

People have been telling me that the game improved vastly since I played it. I don't know how much I'm willing to believe them, considering it has only been a short few months. Someone we all used to play EQ with was a dev on the game and basically quit over how shitty it was. I quit the beta within a couple days of it and gave it to Darwoth, who then uninstalled it over how shitty it was and wrote a long rant about it.

If DB is playing it for 5 months then I'll think about giving it a shot. Until then it's all about waiting for a fantasy EVE.

I love the lore behind this game, if the game can keep its promise of a world where at every corner you could face death, then i will have a good time playing. I hope a lot of others play, i just hope no one tries to get me to change servers, was planning on nabbing a server that most the people i have talked to would all congregate on the 3 days before release for those of us that preordered.

The guy in the vid was really stressing the importance of sticking together, looks like group combat will be nasty. I can only imagine the zERGs that are gunna be running around at release.:eek:

Ive been playing the beta for a couple days, the fileplanet beta is capped at lvl 13 i believe. The game play is a little different, but i really enjoy the combat once it engages. I like the combo system and the ability to attack around the defenses of my opponent.

The classes seem really unique, I had the game cranked on max and i had 0 lag, 0 hitching, and the game world is awesome. I think vanguard has a more "fantasy engine" with slighter cleaner enviroment, but over I was hooked in 1 hour just waiting to get out of the god damn noobie area to try and attack someone. I see incredible potential in this game for just down pvping. I havent been this excited about pvp in long time. I dont think this is going to be best game in history, but i do think its going to a have a good rock, paper, scissors pvp. I ordered 2 collectors editions, and I talked down on this game for months and months, and no funcom comes out with a client that is most finished game ive ever seen come out of a beta. I have never crashed or hitched or seen a single bug. The only things in the chat channels i heard people complaining about was unfinished quests.

You can get to lvl 5 in a bout 10 mins, so im sure it isnt hard to get to lvl 13

Only reason they were overpowered is thus.

The rangers had a too strong of bow for their lvl, so they didn't nerf the class, they gave them a weaker bow.

Assassins were overpowered because you could stack poisin stance.

That is all just little fixes that make a big difference.

So is the game really worth all the hype? What are the pvp rules? I don't think I can anither game without some form of item loot on death.

Well item loot has been debated, but far as i know i don't think it will go in.

There are some interesting things about the pvp, and a seperate pvp leveling system altogether where if you are killed in pvp u lose part of your pvp experience. Theres a lot of other things that could be fun.

I think a pvp guild could survive without having to touch pve. It will be fun to have a siege castle that you have to defend roughly every 5 days, or else contest otehrs for their keeps. That and having FFA pvp, choosing enemies is definately a plus.

I dunno we will see if its any good. But i have been reading some of the original REH conan stories, and i really enjoy them, and i love the lore. The game should promise a good experience as they are sticking to a lot of it.

Way I look at it, its FFA PvP. If the game itself can be played without crashing multiple times and there's not any game breaking balance issues, it should be a good time for a little bit. Certainly better than the alternatives which is Shadowbane who's point and click style of play I didn't personally enjoy(truthfully I didnt' give it much time), Vanguard which has game breaking balance issues (currently the pet thingy) and EQ emus which have their own issues.

I'm very close to commiting to buying it because Daefuin and Awakened have some sort of mind control over me into purchasing bad MMOs.

system specs are pretty simple, but for maximum results i would suggest dx10, like a 8800 gt or better. atleast 2 gigs or 4 for best results. 2.4 ghz dual core or better i think is what it called for, i have a 64 bit 4200+ dual core which i think is like 2.2, and it ran the game alright.

Personally i already bought another 2 gigs of ram, probably going to buy an 8800 gt sometime this summer, and upgrade to 64 bit vista. As for processor, probably going to wait a bit on that one, amd is slacking right now.
