Or at least decriminalize it. It is a damn CRIME that marijuana is illegal.

Can someone name me one credible example of a death soley attributable to pot? Even one car wreck? How about an act of violence? Anything? Ever?

I DO NOT mean the pain and suffering associated with it being illegal either (violent drug dealers, dead cops, ruined lives, abuse of power, prison terms, etc).

Now ask yourself the same question about tobacco, alcohol, caffeine, aspirin, diet pills, etc. Were talking hundreds of thousands of YEARLY examples of death alone.

So why is pot illegal? Who profits (money or power) from it being illegal?

Lawyers do.
Judges do.
Politicians do.
Prisons do.
Law enforcement does.

to name a few of the obvious examples...

Support the decriminalization of marijuana.

And to be clear, I don't smoke pot. My wife does, she has chronic health issues that are dramatically relieved from pot. No other drug does this for her, not even close.

I essentially feel the responsible use of marijuana for whatever reason in our own homes is none of the government's business.

I did not mean just legalize it for medical use.

And who the hell smokes pot and stares at walls? When I do smoke pot I usually do yard work, work out, clean the house, read a good book, etc. I do not like it because it tends to make me see things a bit too clearly. I do not know anyone that stares at walls when they are high, you either know morons or have listened to the propoganda.

Pot is legal here and the Dutch government IS growing pot/weed for medical use. You do not see potheads on every corner, our number of drug addicts is one of the lowest in Europe (relatively).
I am not saying it would work in every other country, for a lot of reasons, but it does work here.
I could see this work for in the United states, more control on useage, less crime (at least in that area), more taxes, less crowded prisons etc.. Anyone who wants to smoke some does it anyway.

Sorry, once again i'm canadian and the government makes profits and taxes off our liqour. Maybe Celoco is right I should just stay out of the US conversations.

I was just thinking on the arguments for legalizing would be the fact that companies would be making it and they would be regulated for safety by the government, and if this was true then why would there be a need on the streets?

Gink your right, the government does not grow it themselves but they sure as hell make a profit because it is heavily taxed like alcohol, tabaco and gasoline are (thats right we pay a LOT of taxes on the latter).
Its weird here though, you are not allowed to grow it in large quantities but you are allowed to sell it, which is weird cuz we have a million coffeeshops in amsterdam alone which sell more pot then we could possibly grow legally.

I am not sure what you mean by 'getting things done'. My examples were a joke of sorts, but if you mean being a productive member of society, I have certainly done that. I have known many many doctors, lawyers, succesful business men, etc who smoke pot (very good pot too) frequently. I also know some complete losers and dangerous individuals that smoke pot. There is absolutely no correlation between your social status and marijuana use.

You also failed to mention the medical use of marijuana. Trust me, it is a wonder drug for some conditions.

Lets face it, humans love to get 'high'. That will NEVER change, and there is ample evidence to prove it. Marijuana is essentially harmless, yet we spend billions and risk countless lives in a fruitless and half hearted attempt to stop it. We send mixed signals to our youth, pot is joked about and not taken very seriously on the one hand, and is an illicit narcotic with significant legal consequences on the other.

Has anyone ever read the DEA description of marijuana? It is so far from reality. Pot does none of these terrible things to users (psychosis, physically addictive). Why the lies there?

AGAIN, someone who disagrees give me ONE credible example of a death or violent act attributable solely to marijuana.

When someone disagrees with me, and they dont know what the fuck they are talking about, and I have never seen or met the charecter in eq, or even HEARD about them..then yes, I ask who the fuck they are. Anywho, didnt u start after velious?

I don't care how you color it, but smoking pot is irresponsible, and can harm people other than yourself.

You mentioned doctors, laywers, etc, that smoke. What happens when there's an emergency, the doctor is called in, but is high. How will he perform to the best of his ability?

This is just one example. I'm sure you can think of others.

Meat - There are PLENTY of violent acts that occur DAILY due to marijuana. I personally go through it everyday. People around here who cop mass weight of something have a great great risk of gettin their money taken, held at gunpoint, even shot... so many violent acts occur due to marijuana. If it was made legal, if anything, it would cease or slow down.

On the topic however, I was talking with this guy I know who smokes the stuff. He says that a pound of really top quality stuff runs him around 1400, but on occasion he can get it for 1 grand even. That's Old Hickory, Tennessee. Right near the middle of the state, by Nashville.

well i can get home grown for like 200 a pound but i thought it'd be more like upwards 3's - 4g's because from what i heard central New York gets shipments first and then it goes down south in which obviously more people handle it which makes the price go up

Ryan I am well aware of the violence associated with marijuana being illegal, that is my strongest argument for it's legalization. I must not have made it clear enough that is how I feel. If it were legal or decriminalized that needless violence would essentially vanish.
