Any of you guys live up in that area where this nutcase is running loose? He seems to be playing a game now, which is what will get him caught. I am sure every possible investigative technique is being used on this case now, their probably even taiking air samples to see if anyone farted in the area.

Seriously though, i sure hope they catch this fool soon, and i hope he resists arrest. That would save the taxpayers a lot of money.

He will get caught sooner or later..leaving clues behind is just stupid. Didnt he say he was god on a terrah*sp?* card he left behind? And now we have that nut in the middle east saying he will use nukes on the first US plane he sees.

Sounds like things are just starting to get fun!!! ;)

Lets see... this individual (or individuals) has killed 6 people and wounded 2 more so far in a weeks time and police have no lead whatsoever at this point (that has been released)
I have no doubt that whoever is responsible is a sociopath and a danger to society but to call them a "fool" seems a bit naive.

Nuking an airplane flying over your country? Whoever said that is missing a few cards from their deck.

And about the sniper, from what I hear(I don't often watch the news), I would venture that he is ex-military. And stating the obvious, he lost his damn sanity.

Daefuin

During the Vietnam War (I think it was Vietnam) the snipers use to leave there sign behind on Tarot cards. That kind of makes you wonder if it is someoen who served during the Vietnam War.

More likely he read a book about it... after all, a .223 round isnt prefered for sniping. If he was a real sniper Vet, he'd probably have a .30-06 or if he had the money a bolt action .50 cal rifle. And he wouldnt be 125 yards away either.

Yes, I live in Virginia, where the last guy was killed and another lady was wounded earlier. It's all over the news here. A shame that people have died, but there's no denying it's a fascinating story.

Say whatever you want about the person or people doing it, but they are doing a very good (good being relative in this case) job at what they are aiming to do, no pun intended. You are correct, Mawwle, some stupid mistake that could have been avoided will get him/them caught.

Azriel
10-11-2002, 05:31 AM
Actually NO! Vietnam snipers would never leave tarot cards on his mark....WTF would he be sniping them with...a handgun? Im sorry but at 500yds out you just would have time to run up to the corpse and plant a card....chances are you would get caught and a captured sniper=a dead sniper...
Rangers, SEAL's , SF and other hardcore companies in the US ARMY or Marine Corpe have been known to leave Death Cards on bodies after a firefight, but Snipers NEVER its the most retarded thing a sniper could possibly conceive(sp?) especially since when most sniper missions are to infiltrate, eradicate a target and bug out (all without being seen) there is a reason they are called SNIPERS you know!

Carlos Hathcock > All snipers.

Hell, maybe its him doing the shooting :) lol, jk

The more he gets away with this the easier it will seem to him. And as he begins to think "hey this is really easy" he will start to make mistakes and get busted. Like i said, i just hope he resists arrest to save us all a lot of time and money.'

Yah... my father was a sniper in Vietnam, and although he doesn't like to talk about it, there are some things he did...

First off, leaving a calling card would be suicide in Vietnam. Being a sniper in that kind of surrounding, you'd have to be completely even-headed and 'professional'. He definately wasn't of a mind to make it artsy. Dead is dead... when there are that many casualties every minute, who knows what the hell that one Ace is doing in the pile of dead bodies...

Secondly, his weapon of choice is a 30.06, 210 grain round. Keep in mind, I hardly know what any of this stuff does, but I know that's what he likes to use - he had me firing my first 30.06 when I was 13.

Sorta ironic that I don't want to own a gun, eh? :p

Mawwle
10-11-2002, 08:30 AM
Ouch, a 13 year old firing a 30-06 lol. Thats got some serious punch to it and probably left a pretty good bruise. I fired a 460 weatherbymag once( its basically a elephant gun) it knocked me flat on my ass and did leave one hella bruise. Thats a gun you really dont wanna fire more than once, but then again with a round that big there is no need to fire more than once lol.

To give you an idea here, the 30-06 fires a 210 grain bullet at about 2500 feet per second with about 2800 foot/lbs of energy.
The 460 fires a 500 grain bullet at 2700 fps with over 8000 ft.lbs of energy. The only real use for one is elephant or moose hunting, but it was fun to shoot it once.

Just look around before you get out of your car to pump gas. He seems to really like gas stations. My guess is he is probably set up 100 to 200 yds away, because any distancwe greater than this takes a high degree of skill to be as acurate as he has been. Not to say that he isnt that acurate, just saying that over 200 yds the average shooter cannot be that accurate.

Yah, I was shooting a 30-30 most of the day ( which was good enough for my size ) and then he told me to squeeze off a couple with the 30.06. I think one was enough... lol

I know that my shoulder hurt quite a bit, but he did spend countless hours teaching me the tricks to it all. Even though shooting isn't my cup of tea, I didn't do too bad.

I haven't fired a rifle since that day, so I would loathe firing something as big as an elephant gun. I'd probably cry like a little girl. :D

The first gun I fired was a .303 Lee enfield no. 4 mk III (my grandfathers from WWII, but sportorized), which is the only gun I now own, and jesus that thing kicks so bad I need to use a shoulder pad (which many of them were actually made with starting in late 1944).

But 30-06 doesn't even kick as much as the .303 in the enfield...

But I notice theres a sniper loose and we haven't heard much from darworth lately, lol... :O)

Hey, theres an idea Noobe, meet this guy masterbate him, make him blind, problem solved.

All joking aside. When they do find this guy they should get their best snipers, tie him up and snipe one finger, toe, his dick, and other parts off at a time. And of course make it a reality tv show that goes on for months.

Whats your thoughts on whether its one man or their is another maybe two more ppl involved helping get the vehicles, driving, etc.?

Er the day he killed somone at Spotsylvania mall I was staying in Fredrecksburg on business and had stopped at that mall.

The last guy he shot was at the exact exit (I-95 / route 1) I have to take on another business trip this Wednesday...wtf...

Dae
10-13-2002, 02:48 AM
Is that the exit for Quantico? heh. I recall 95 and rt 1 being very close with rt 1 passing the front gate. Maybe hes a marine clerk typist who didnt get to see action but always wanted to, or a supply guy same story. "that just shows what one motivated marine and his rifle can do, and some day you will be able to do the same thing" Love that full metal jacket movie.

Dae
10-13-2002, 02:54 AM
karn, its probably just one guy. I would bet he likes to look at his shot for a few seconds afterward, like when you go to the range and shoot well you like to look at your shot up target that sort of thing. He prob caps em off then gets out his binoculars to look at the body a bit then casually drives away.

Scurry
10-13-2002, 03:57 AM
Quantico is about 15 miles north of the most recent shooting. The most recent one was at an Exxon near one of our offices that I usually stop and get gas at when I visit there.

My guess would be two guys in a panel truck, with a slot or some sort of concealed viewing/shooting hole in the side wall of the cargo area. One guy drives and keeps watch, the other guy sits in the cargo area and shoots. They could conceivably park somewhere and shoot and most people would think it were just a parked truck. The driver would have the option to pull off whenever things were unfavorable. Muzzle flash may be an issue, as well as the sound, obviously, assuming they are not using a silencer.

As far as binoculars, who knows. I wouldn't put it past them to be video taping things. Remember the kids video taping shooting people with paintball guns? This could be the same thing, yet on a larger and more deadly scale.

Daefuin? Daefura? Dae?

Just curious.

I am with Scurry on more than one being involved. And more than likely when and IF they get caught. It will be a murder / sucide real quick like, maybe a bit of a fire fight first. But in the end the sniper will make sure there is noone to talk. He knows everyone is expecting him to bragg and boast about it. He will silence the "professional" shrinks this way.

I like those gaurdian angel guys stepping up and assisting with pumping gas and etc. Takes balls to know your painting yourself as a target. Thing is he wont hit these guys cause they are expecting it. He likes the innocence (sp) of his victims.

They are making a big deal of him taking weekends off. What you all think about that? Going camping with his family? In the reserves, reporting to base? Goes to church on Sunday?

Another note. Scary thought that every hidden terrorist in US is seeing the same thing we are. How vulnerable we are in everyday life.

Saw in yesterdays paper, they seized a van in Baltimore,MD with tarot cards, Gihad in America sign, a manual on sniping, a sniper weapon and similar ammunition. But i dont know if this stuff was discovered before or AFTER the attack in VA at the home Depot.

They said the vans owner was being interviewed Monday. Possible it isnt one person or group bouncing back and forth between VA and MD like they would like you to think. Instead its two seperate ppl or groups planning out the attacks so it seems that way. The van they seized could jus be half of what they are looking for.

im out of the loop on the most recent developments regarding the sniper for reasons covered in the "im back" thread but some of my thoughts are.

for one thing i find it sickening how the antigun crowd are already bathing in the blood of the victims to try to further their ridiculous agenda, what do i mean you ask?

well......

for one thing they dont even know for a fact that .223 was used, a .223 fires on average a 55 grain projectile at upwards of 3000 feet per second, this causes the round to almost always fragment apart on impact with a target if the target is inside say 200 yards, so far theyve recovered only bullet FRAGMENTS.

since they have only recovered FRAGMENTS, the round could just as easily be something similar size such as a .243 or 25-06 and any of literally dozens of other similar wildcat cartridges.

if it is in a fact a ".223 bullet" that doesnt mean the cartridge used was a .223, a LOT of rounds use the same bullets as a .223 or ones very similar, the .22-250, .22 hornet and many others come to mind, rememer theyve recovered only FRAGMENTS so far.

they have recovered a .223 casing yes, but who is to say the sniper did not just plant that to throw them off? they found the casing on what the 8th or 9th kill? i find it strange until then he hadnt left anything behind.

assuming that a .223 is beign used, which is certainly possible because it is one of the top 10 cartridges in the united states as far as sales and popularity are concerned they have NO IDEA what gun he has been using.

but they have their ridiculous press conferences with a bunch of so called "experts" like the stupid fucking ATF guy that stated he thought the gun used was the elusive (non existent) "hk47" that surround themselves with a table of "evil assault weapons".

i have seen at least 4 different press conferences where these worthless sacks of shit have placed an ar15, hk93, galil, and an FAL (which is chamberd in .308!) and other similar looking guns on a table while waving one around as the murder weapon.

the reason for this is simple, in 1992 the draconian antigun legislation the brady bill was passed which made these guns not able to be imported from other countries in an attempt to make them unavailable, despite that most of these weapons had not been used in crimes, this law was passed as being a "temporary" trial run and is due to expire late this year or early next year, how convenient for the anti gun crowd that someone randomly starts shooting people a short time before this for the media whores to sensationalize and give them lots of opportunity for airtime to spread their lies and propaganda to the ignorant masses.

lets see, get on TV now while everyone is worried about the sniper, wave around a few guns that look "scary" to the uninformed even thought they function the exact same as most squirrel rifles, throw around a few buzzwords such as "sniper assault rifle" nevermind facts, and relax as the constitution raping goes on by unhindered.

i can only imagine the insanity that the left will begin screaming about after the elections, thats right hunter bob they arent just coming after my semi auto anymore, now they are setting their sights on your deer rifle er uh, i mean SNIPER RIFLE OOOOOOOOOH!

already they want to enact a "ballistic fingerprinting database" not only is this further infringement on the 2nd ammendment but it is completely ineffective because,

running a file down a parrel = NEW BALLISTIC FINGERPRINT!

changing a barrel out for a new one = NEW BALLISTIC FINGERPIRNT!

using bullets that fragment = NO BALLISTIC FINGERPRINT

using stolen gun like most murderers do = NO TRACEABLE BALLISTIC FINGERPRINT.

ironically MARYLAND is one of the TWO shitholes in the country where they already have ballistic fingerprinting "databases" effective eh?

now given these FACTS, one must look at the REAL reason why they wants a ballistic "fingerprint" database. well once they get their dick in the door with this shit they will then say....

oh shit, time to make it so you cant buy replacement barrels (or firing pins or extractors) without registering them in our database!
whats that you say? people buy these parts by the millions every year because these parts are the most frequently worn out on guns? oh well!

then they will say.........

oh shit, hollowpoints, frangibles and softpoints are evil untraceable cop killer ammunition time to ban these!

whats this?, a shotgun leaves NO ballistic fingerprint becauses its a smoothbore? sorry you cant have these weapons of mass destruction anymore.

additionally im sick of the media portraying this guy as being some kind of fucking carlos hatchcock super sniper when he isnt jack shit, i mean fuck after an afternoon of showing my little sister how to shoot i had her nailing shit as 50 - 70 yards, an average (and i mean average) deerhunter is capable of consistently hitting man size targets at 300 yards.

i can routinely hit the center of a paper plate at 600 - 800 yards with my .300 magnum depending on how good i am that day and how bad the wind is.

this guys longest shot apparently has been at 150 yards, that isnt shit and im sick of the media acting like it is.

also anyone else notice how from the outset they assumed it was a white guy? more insulting is that they stated numerous times that it must be a "middle aged whit militia type member" dont you love it when these fucks pull facts out of their CONSTANTLY to demonize a group of people? namely white guys who happen to support the constituion (oh no!)

it probably is a white guy, (da h0mb0yz cant hit shit at 5 yards with an uzi let alone at 100+ with one shot) but implying that its a "milita type" is insulting and another example of the subtle brainwashing the media pushes on the masses every day.

i also find it ridiculous the way the feds and law enforcement agencies act like they have it all under control, "we are looking for a white van and a guy that has a .223.......uh if you have any info call us and shit" if the guy is still driving a white van (if he ever was) he is either an idiot or wants to be caught or both.

other points of interest (disgust) is how the media encouraged everyone to turn in anyone they know who might posess an ar15, nevermind that owning an ar15 is a constitutional right and not illegal.

and the fact that 5000+ of these rifles have been confiscated so far for "testing".

Carlos Hathcock= "The shit"

And your totally right about how easy it is to make a 200 yard shot. Although i kinda disagree about 300 yds, as i feel at that range it does take a decent measure of skill to nail a man sized target in the head or chest every time. Not the top 10% or anything, but a lot of people cant do it.

Acuraccy has always been my strong point in shooting too, although i really dont have anywhere i can pull off a 800 yard shot :) at least no place close by.

On another note, since your probably a bit more up to date than i am. Who makes the best 7mm magnum? Sometime in the next year i plan to get one with a very nice scope to go with it. I have read they have a very flat trajectory and are typically very stable rounds. Since the one thing my arsenal lacks is something with some range, i wanna get a nice one.

So darworth, think you could pull off a mile and a half shot with a 50 cal single shot? Poor guy in vietnam didnt think Hathcock could do it either heh.

Yea, Hathcock had the most "confirmed" kills in Nam. You dont get a confirmed kill unless a spotter verifies the shot. He had i think 160 confirmed kills and many more unconfirmed.

He also holds the record for the longest recorded sniper shot of 1 and a half miles, and coined the phrase "one shot one kill". He is pretty old now, but i think he still trains marines that want to become snipers.

Hathcock was good no doubt. Hes the one that shot the other sniper through the scope... now thats a close call. He got taken out of the war when the transport he was on caught fire, he saved a bunch of soldiers but was fucked up good for doing it. As far as shooting from 150 yards away, if you are in a prone position you should be able to hit head shots without a scope no problem, with a scope it would be very easy to pop people.

Another one (likely), this one about 15 miles from here.

Um, with an M16 8 inch groups with 10 shots are not hard at 500 yards...without scope. I have consistently nailed 10 out of 10 in the 'head' of the target at that distance with that weapon. If your dope is set correctly it's just a matter of timing.

But I agree, there are of course much better sniper rifles and 75-100 yard shots are a joke. I cant imagine trying to do it while killing another human though...this guy must be completely fucked up with ice in his veins.

Definitely makes you look around while you pump gas and shit in the Fredericksburg area...kinda eery around there now.

7mm is a great cartridge and will most likely do whatever you need it to do.

i almost got a 7mm but instead went with a .300 magnum because i can take pulled military surplus armor piercing, incendiary and tracer bullets and handload them into .300 mag cases.

i really couldnt tell you what rifle is "best", any long distance rifle is generally not an over the counter purchase but is custom built and cost a LOT of money. my rifle is really pretty mediocre, its just a stock remington 700 with the exception of a harris bipod, aluminum bedded stock, some kind of generic target knobs and leupold scope. i intend to get a "real" long range rifle system eventually, who know maybe ill be able to stretch my range by 100 yards or so =)

also the scope is JUST as important as the rifle, whatever you decide to spend on the rifle, allocate the same amount for the scope and scope mounts, target knobs etc. (without getting into the vastly exotic stuff you cant go wrong with a leupold or shepherd scope FYI)

in all honesty long distance shooting is probably 80% shooter 20% rifle, my dad used to compete in 1000 yard matches at military bases down here in virginia, his rifle was a stock savage 30-06 with a middle of the road bushnell scope and he has at least 8 plaques on his wall for finishing in the top 10 out of hundreds of competitors and the majority of his competition were military snipers.

whatever you decide to get youve got to practice a lot with it, you might want to get a stock 300 dollar rifle from the local wal mart and a cheap 150 dollar scope in the same chambering as your final rifle and shoot the fuck out of it getting used to the "personality" oif that particular cartridge and its characteristics, without having to worry about wearing out stuff on your expensive rifle (belted magnum calibers are hell on barrel chambers and wear them out quick and since a match barrel can cost a lot of money it only makes sense, besiudes gives you an excuse for an extra gun =P)

a better place to ask would be over at frugals on the weapons board, there is a wealth of info over there from people that know a lot more than me who have been doing this stuff for decades, give them a rough idea of what you can spend and you will walk away with several excellent suggestions.

(i gavce you the address already but if you need it again PM me)
