Many many people have/had this bug, I fixed mine by doing a lot of things. Best thing to do is read the everquest tech support forum. That's how i fixed mine.

Crashing a lot around the time a new expansion comes out? pffftt you must be kidding right :\

But I kind of solved my problem. I put on NEWUI,and when I change to toon screen I don't crash. But when I put back on old UI I crash.

I am starting to love NEWUI better anyways heh :) But I still want to figure out why I crash on oldUI.
