I downloaded a few .avi movies off of kazaa and i only get sound, no video. I used window's media player and also tried Real player. I have played many avi files in the past, but never a full length movie. I was just wondering if there is some kind of encoding i need some software for since these movies were ripped from a divx or dvd ect.
Any help would be appreciated.

Try getting DivX 5.0.2
It basically allows you windows media player to read other bitch avi files.

And get rid of Real Player, and anything to do with Real at all, they have a nasty habit of taking in CC info you have and sending it out on the internet un encrypted.

man i feel sorry for you kids that are so clueless about computers. everything on the internet/computers has been dumbed down so no one that started using a computer in the past 5 years has a clue how to do anything except run kazaa and totally lag up your connection because you have ten people downloading off you and killing your upstream. and you all probably have countless viruses on your computer from opening nekkidchik.jpg.exe because windows hides the extension for known file types by default.
for editing/cutting mpeg's-- get tmpgenc (http://www.tmpgenc.net) or go to doom9.net for all the info you could ever want. Wipo-- if realplayer is asking for your CC info you're probably got a trojan wrapper installed, i have real installed (no other way to play their files afaik) and i have never seen it ask for my CC info.

You can fit up to an 827mb mpeg on an 80 min cdr if you burn it as a vcd/svcd instead of as a data cd. get nero or vcdeasy.

It is when you purchase it, or any real product, it keeps your CC info stored in its own files on your computer, they have never revealed the purpose to why they do this but they do. It then sends a burst of information to thier website, unfortunatly none of the information is encrypted, very easy for someone to sniff out the data.
As well RealDownload, or any downloading management program is pretty much spyware, it keeps track of all sites you visit, and keeps a profile on you. No point in having a download manager when you are using a highspeed connection anyway, unless your connection is supershitty.
Gator is another nice little program that stores any personal information and sends it out to different parties, including CC info, a friends dad was using Gator for password and CC info storage, untill his firewall asked him permission for Gator to send a file called CreditCard.doc or something like that.
Lots of spyware programs out there, most dont think much of them when they are name brand products, but in todays age, what is a namebrand for software?
