Half of Australia's military headed to gulf!!

CANBERRA, Australia — Prime Minister John Howard said Tuesday his government would commit 2,000 military personnel to any U.S.-led strike aimed at disarming Iraq.

Seriously though, as this thing finally gets underway (about 12 years too late IMO)keep your eyes peeled. I know the FBI is probably watching every Arab in the country atm, but ya never know what they may try.

We have at least 10,000 ground troops, a good part of which are on peacekeeping missions. Overall we have somewhere in the region of 60,000 military personnel. The only people we are sending to the gulf are our SAS troops (who are the second best elite troops in the world behind the british SAS) and a squadron of FA/18 fighter-bombers.

Interestingly enough, most polls here indicate 70%+ people here oppose war without UN intervention, so trust conservatives (ie our federal govt.) to serve their own interests rather than the peoples, afterall thats pretty much the definition of a conservative.

And why good luck to me? I'm about as far away from anywhere important as possible. Be worried about yourself Mawwle, remember you are target number 1 :)

Aussies have a elite military? Second you say? I think Isreal has the most elite troops if I am correct. The Jews don't play. After Hitler giving them the shaft they don't take shit off of anyone. They finally quit assassinating people. British does have a elite team though. Watched something on them on History channel or something, 8 of them killed 200. Sounds like AD vs DB.

Israel has one of the best intelligence services in the world - Mossad. Great during peacetime for gathering intelligence, assassinating people, sabotaging things, planting disinformation etc etc - but when war breaks out they go backstage and the military comes out to play.

I was talking about elite troops - actual combat troops. Our intelligence services are not very good, ASIO (Australian Secret Intelligence Organisation) was caught spying on Belgium a while ago. Pathetic, I mean, shouldn't they have at least been spying on someone who was possibly our enemy? And getting caught - thats fucking sad considering nobody actually knows how much money we pay them to NOT get caught.

Now your comparing civilian gun owners to actual military personel? Can we say apples and oranges anyone? Do you even have a clue on how many civilian gun owners there are in the US? Get a clue. On top of that, what does the US spending 400 billion dollars on defense have to do with your previous statement? Ohh wait this is you comparing things I forgot. The United States being able to collapse the only other worlds super power in history and be able to fight and win two large theatre wars at once pitted against Australias civilian gun population here.

Everyone knows the british have the best elite forces, and we model ours after theirs (our military has traditionally been based on the UK's). I'm not saying the american ones are crap, they just aren't as good. But now I'm offending your "america is always best" complex, so you have to reply saying america is better! I mean jesus man, I can admit when Australia fucks up, I can admit our economic, population and defence deficiencies - but you can't do that to america because you don't reason, you just spout pro-american crap regardless of how true or not it is.

Special forces are good because of training, equipment, and intelligence......the latter 2 of which australia is nowhere near second in. Therefore their special forces aren't 2nd :(

The aussies have as good equipment as any other forces out there, but the intelligence is most likely lacking.... I mean, Belgium?!?! Who the hell spies on Belgium?!?!


But, Delta Force didn't write the book on special forces, if anyone did, it was the rangers. They've been around since revolutionary times, correct?




LOL, Canada's special forces consist of about 17 eskimo's and a Husky with a gimped leg, outfitted with WWII surplus Lee Enfields. Under the title the "Canadian Rangers".

They have a pretty good idea how many civilian gun owners since our weapons are registered.Now im sure the illegal gun owners in the US is prolly jusy as high as registered gun owners so you imagine how many guns are actually on the streets here.
