Going to make this real quick. First hour I was learning the User-Interface and went to the training facility to learn how to use weapons and shit. After completing that, I went out in search of killing some peeps and boy did I have fun. No, I haven't got a kill yet, but these big mother fucking guy (soldier) from Terren came in the base I spawned in and took out like 10 people before he actually died. Finally I got outside and this big war vehicle ran into me which hurt me but I didn't die yet, then I got sniped shortly after that :(

Overall the game is fast learning and is the most fun I have had in an online game since the early days of playing Innuendo in EQ. the game runs well on my system suprisingly even though I wasn't in any war over 20 people in the vacinity.

I am usually a pretty pestimistic person when it comes to playing new games, and so far this shit owns. I suggest you people playing EQ who like pvp to go out and buy this game.

The best analogy I can give is that do you remember in EQ when you would search from dungeon to zone to zone looking for people to kill? Well, in Planetside you can all warp where any opposing forces are trying to take over your base and you start pvping immediatly, no waiting hours after hours to kill one person, or even better yet, find a person that is in your range.

That is my 2 hour impression, sorry I didn't proofread and I don't know all the "correct Planetside lingo" yet

Well, looking back to my first few days, all i recall was getting killed like a bitch everyday until i figured out how to use cover, strafing, weopon selection and some tactics. I read on the Sullon Zek no jihad boards where some of the less bright individuals said it was a no skill game, and they are wrong.

Fact is, the game allows for a newby to jump right into the fight fromt he gey go with the gear and stuff to be competetive, but if they think they are gonna go out and do anything but die for the first week, they are deluded. It takes practice and quite a bit of thought to become effective in planetside. In the mean time, just enjoy and don;t get frustrated when you get smoked.

Let me go over frustrations for the first two days:

1. Making an aircraft and not knowing how to take off. The next aircraft was then created when i sat there to long and killed me.

2. running along a road and gettign run over by a tank.

3. Number 2 a few times in 10 minutes.

4. Getting shot and not being able to figure out from where.

5. Getting killed before killing anyone.....ALOT.

All of this is fixed by simply playing and learning how to do better. Also, i am glad i have DSL....cuase i dunno how the game will work in those huge 3 or 4 hundred person battles :) I have been in fights where my radar is absolutely spammed with dots ;p

How many points does one get for killing someone. There are some many things I want to train in :) I know you probably get more points for doing bigger things such as taking over a base or hacking it or some shit. But, for the meantime I'll be doing solo shit like sitting on a hill sniping people :)

I read on the Sullon Zek no jihad boards where some of the less bright individuals said it was a no skill game, and they are wrong

Gray, those 'less bright individuals' had one of the top NC outfits in all of beta - while only having a max of 30 people (while most were 125+). My kill ratio in beta was probably something like 10-1, or more (I had 95 max kills before character wipe, for example). Quite a few were even better (Beaner, Braic, Smokedog, etc) <Elegant Jihad> was highly respected, and we mowed folks down.

Planetside is a very low skill FPS. The simple fact that an outfit like Darkenbane (with very little FPS experience) is doing so well within a week of beta is a pretty graphic example of this. Most FPS have an extremely high learning curve, and discourage a lot of people from ever starting. So, Sony dumbed it down a ton to apeal to the masses. Compared to Tribes2, Planetside is a kiddy park (which was intentional - they flat out wanted it that way). The cone of fire system makes the game reachable to the masses, but rips out the skill that is at the heart of true FPS. So while you are having fun playing PS, don't think it equates to any real FPS skill. You can always log into Tribes2 or DoD or Ravenshield or UT2k3 if you want to be reminded what skill is, or how 'less bright' folks are.

That being said, PS does have fun elements, if they hadn't built it on a rotten core of a poor FPS system, I'd have enjoyed it a lot more. As it is, I'm really hoping Priest (http://www.gamepriest.com) comes through with a truly great MMOFPS/RPG - Planetside let me down bad - even though I'm sharing an account with my brother and playing from time to time still.

Velael,

You basically agree with me then. There IS a big differnece between players, squads and outfits in PS. Organization, planing...stategy.....reflexes...SKILL all do play a part in the game.

1 on 1. 10 on 10. 100 on 100. There r many right ways ways and many wrong ones from what I have seen. I know for a fact my skill has increased dramtically in the last week as previosuly i got mowed down like 10 times and killed only 1 person....now i have switched those stats. It's alot more fun...BTW....being the killer instead of the killed.

As such, my point is that practice makes perfect. Not gettign frustrated by getting smoked is the key. Stick with it.....learn....get better.

DB will pass the zerg guilds in time.
