Gray Rage and other DB members...

This message is mostly directed at Gray Rage, but also for any other member of DarkenBane back in the days of Ultima Online when DB was started on the Atlantic Server (and anyone else who reads).

I posted here in the PS forum because I know Gray has a more active role in PlanetSide, rather than other games right now (at least I think he does, hahah). So hopefully he'll read it. Anyways, on to my ramblings...

My name is Pat, known as Hot Blooded to DB members back in Ultima Online. I was part of the "blood bros" crew along with Warm Blooded and Cold Blooded that joined DB at some point in time. I was one of the original members of DB back when Gray started DB in Ultima Online. I've been out of the gaming loop for years now. I was also known as Eyepatch in UO, hence the reason for the forum name.

I remember some of the original members other than Gray were Larson/Los, Majestic, Char, Hamlet, Hastings, Eskimo Spy and others... I don't know how many or if any of you from the UO days are still left, other than Gray. If there are any of you, speak up, I'd like to catch-up on what you're doing.

Myself and a few bros from my gaming days are looking to get back into gaming together. We looked at PlanetSide and ShadowBane, both. We are thinking of PlanetSide, for the most part. I know Gray is playing PS more and invited me to come join the crew again, about a month ago. So I'm here looking for input on the two games and for a crew to once again, associate myself with.

I've heard many things about ShadowBane, saying it's great in some aspects, but completely horrible in others (e.g. lag).

I've heard next to nothing about PlanetSide other than what I've read and viewed, as far as screenshots go.

I'm not looking for a comparison, but rather, overall, which would you recommend?

Back when UO was still playable I was Warm Blooded, as Eyepatch mentioned. That was about 5 years ago, so I don't know how many of yall, if any, will remember me. Gray if you remember I was the last blood bro to join. I haven't talked to Cold Blooded in years and actually have no idea what he is up to.

Since then I have only been really playing CS and Day of Defeat. I did play UO on Icrontic shard for about four months but that fell apart.

Anyway Planetside looks insane, and so does Shadowbane. Whatever game yall recomend will probably be what Eyepatch and I go to. I am ready to be a newbie again....

as Eyepatch mentioned above, the lag/bugs in SB are/were horrible.. PS (from what i hear) seems a much better choice..

hopefully Darkenbane will be focusing on 1 game again when World of Warcraft comes out.. but that really depends on the PvP content Blizzard intends to put in..

Well everyone, let me introduce you to a couple of guys who helped originally found Darkenbane. Before the days of Meter (our savior hehe), Darkenbane on the web was us uploading to my bellsouth ISP pics people send to me and stuff we made on the Microsoft html editor (it was so aweful).

Despite this, some of my more memorable gaming times were on UO with the guys he named. From sitting in front of Covetous (where we made Covetous Crew our enemies) all stascked in one spot, to our crazy assaults on people's castles (where we usually had to exploit to get to them and lead to some of us getting banned ;p). Lot's of memories :)

So guys, I am here to tell yah, you are always welcome here. Now or 5 years from now. You were great and loyal friends back then and i seriously doubt that has changed!

Ok about the guys you listed:

Los AKA LArson AKA Carlos: I have not talked to him in quite some time. Last i heard he got engaged to his girlfriend...and then he disapeered ;p I am pretty sure he checks here once in a blue moon, but prolly only to read the News section and mebe glance at the boards. I am gonna make some effort to call him and see whats goin on.

Majestic AKA Innuendo AKA Exivate AKA Matt: Is stillw ith us and playing planetside :) He is in college now and is currently stuck using a dial up connection (which is harsh in PS). He has a girlfreind who is nice and let's him play games :)

Char: He played EQ with us for a while, but then started to make partying and being stupid IRL a more prominant part of his life. He prolly checks the site from the prison internet connection (JK) once in a while ;p

In EQ we evolved considerably gaining alot of good folks you see posting here. From the ruthless ones (Darwoth) to the nice ones (Hamadryad...who will still kill u on a drop of a hat, but smile while doing it). ALSO, and most importantly, do u recall the "evil one"? My wife(i think she was just my gf back then)? The one who would never let me play? Well she is an avid gamer now. I BORGED HER! So now i get to play without getting yelled at ;p

About PS vs SB vs any other game. Like Once said, we are spread out among several games. PS is not for everyone. Neither is SB. SB is/was a cool, but it had so many problems (crashing all the time/lag) that is was more annoying then not. I really like PS, but it's not gonna last very long cause there is very little character development (which is part of the longevity of a game). Also there is not much social atmosphere in PS...which again, is important for a guild game imho. PS is great for action...and just a fun game to play tho, so we are playing it while we wait for World of Warcraft to come out :)

Like Once said, I am hopeful WoW brings us all back to one game.

Sweet, thanks for the warm welcome Gray. Yeah, she was your girlfriend, then. Congrats on the marriage and I assume it's going well since she's gaming, too, hahahah. I've learned to keep myself away from the nagging and other obligations that girlfriends tend to bring about, until I've got time in my life and most importantly MONEY. Plus, I'm only 20, still a lot to live up.


Yeah, Gray, myself and the others had some insane moments back in UO. Our most memorable ones had to have been with the Covetous Crew. Then were the times with The Mercs and The Pluggers, whom I have no idea if they're still around. In UO, alls we had was enemies besides our only friend named Plunk from PC (Penni Crew). I remember the night most of DB quit, when we were trying to gain access to this group of peoples Tower and we got a punkass GameMaster who wanted to be a dick. I think Gray and one of the others ended up getting banned for telling them to "fuck off" or something along those lines. That wasn't a surprise to us, we were often known to not take ANY shit from anyone and I'm sure that's carried on with DB throughout other games. After most of DB left UO, I carried DB on for months alongside Larson/Los, then he ended up quitting due to IRL stuff and gave me his account. I ended up getting banned 3 different times over the course of the next year and then quit. Haven't been around the gaming scene much at all which is why I came here to seek knowledge and to once again join up where I buried my roots.

I love remembering old stories.

Anyways, the 2 buddies I keep in touch with, whom I ran around in UO with for years, I've been friends with them on the net for 7 years. One is Warm Blooded/Bear Chest who posted above and the other is our buddy Matt. We've all decided to get into gaming again, as we've not much to do until college starts once again. Overall, we're planning for WoW (which just looks incredible so far), just like I'm sure the rest of DB is, but until then we are looking for something to hold us over. It looks like we'll most likey gear up in PlanetSide within the next few weeks. We've gotta gear up our PC's with new hardware to run shit smoothly and a couple of us have some small trips to go on and then we'll join up with DB, again, hopefully.

I've been lazy about going out lately so I checked for PlanetSide gear on Ebay. I put a bid on the game and then on a 90 day subscription card, so we'll see what happens.

Still, if anyone urges us to check out another game, we'd more than likely do it!

Yeah PS isn't going to run on my comp to well with my AMD 650 and half working pos Voodoo 4500.... If I were rich I would be playing now, but a new motherboard, chipset and video card are gonna cost me. Planning on going 2ghz with a geforce 4, hopefully that will handle WoW too...

I've got a decent system right now, I still get lots of lag, but I'm not upgrading till WoW comes out, actually the week before I'm going to buy top of the line parts (aside from my vid card which is) and then I'll have something even nicer to play WoW on. Yeah, some guys were hiding in their castle from us, so we began to break in (they had the tents blocking the entry), so they tattled and a GM brought us to jail. He had a bug up his ass and thought he was all tough and stuff and got a few insults thrown his way. So he muted us (took away our ability to talk) so we went and named recall ruins shit like "Mudpig likes boys" ect ect.....so it was like a bill board in the GM jail ;p Los has those pics somewhere...it was funny as hell...and yes, like two of us got banned and we all quit UO (DB left the game as an organized guild). But EQ was days from beta.....and EQ > UO ;p

If yer lookin to get a new system, buy a computer gaming world magazine which has a monthly article on 2 different types of self built systems. Plug in the gear listed on the "lean machine" in ebay and u can build a solid puter for under 700 bucks. A real nice puter in fact.

Hahhah, yeah it was GM Ghostpig. Apparently it was a female, dunno for sure, but I met up with her many times after that occasion for being accused of "cheating" because my buddies and I were PvP maniacs. I remember that night so well, good times.

I think Brian (Bear Chest/Warm Blooded) is going to flush a few hundred bucks away into a 2ghz cpu w/mb and then get a badass graphics card. He's trying to get his new system up by next week.

A couple fuckers outbid me on Ebay for some PS shit, but I've bid on more, since then.

Our other bro is on a trip out to his girlfriends a few hours away until the beginning of july so once he's back, then most likely him and I will be in PS with ya guys and then Brian will join up in real soon. I'm fully stoked. :)

Anyways, my bids on Ebay went through and I should be receiving Planetside within a week, along with a 90-day subscription game card.
