Tell me about it. I'm hearing alot of hub-bub. Mainly what I need is convincing that it's more than just paying monthly for a game like tribes.
But... I'm interested in PvP knowledge concerning the game. Will this be a game that 10 (or less like 1 or 2) people can log on and do some serious damage?
I'm about to head to the main site and do some reading, but I would like an account from people playing the game as well.

I don't know it depends, I've played Tribes 2 (and continue too) ever since the day it came out (same as tribes 1), it's pretty much just paying monthly for a better built game. it's more in depth and has an actual variety. If your looking for a game to tide you over till WoW or Tribes: Vengeance, then this is the game.
Currently im playing:
Tribes 1/2
Day of Defeat
MOHHAS and expansion
BF1942 and expansion
Morrowind
Planetside
Dragonrealms (ooold text-based MUD)
Waiting For:
World of Warcraft
Half-Life 2
Everquest 2 (eww, but looks good)
Pirates of the Carribean (Seadogs 2)
Tribes: Vengeance
But thats just me

There are tons of reviews up on this board as well as the DB News (on darkenbane.com), but to answer your question: it's fun!
Yar, u can play solo and have a blast and kill a mess of people and join with the rest of your empire on assaults ect or u can make a 10 person squad and organize yourself into a group that could decimate 30 unorganized people trying to stop you (which is what i would like to see us doing soon).
I get frustrated , sure (when i get smoked), but i am having alot of fun and feel pretty comfortable saying it will tide me over until WoW. Plus i want to get on the leader board ;p
yoyoyo
i have a feeling anyone who enjoys the pvp aspects of fighting games + a little of the roleplaying and specialization of a shadowbane/dunegons and dragons/everquest roleplay game plus the thrill of gunning some1 down in doom/quake is going to love this
u can form squads of upto 10 and have larger outfits ( equivalent of guild ) or u can choose to run around solo
theres 3 teams constantly fighting and no teams evr ally
each team has advantages and disadvantages as far as choice of equipment guns and vehicles
instead of exp u gain certification points to train in abilities such as repairing, hacking, driving vehicles, or using different weopons ( ie... sniper rifle ... anti aircraft guns etc. )
i am so fucking hard for this game that viagra couldnt help me!!!
i cant wait until 5pm so i can logon
sony has really created a masterpeice quality gamke here for the online gaming industry to aspire to be!!

It is fun as hell. The down side, tho, is its not personal. No shittalking really cause everyone dies...and dies alot. And frankly, u don;t have alot of time to shittalk ;p Its not like EQ where fitghts can last a minute or more....fights in PS last less then 2 seconds if yer not paying attention and take cover ;p Short fights = not much shittalking. But its worth the 50 bucks to be sure.

Hmmm. Well I might consider playin it if some friends do, other than that bf1942 is enough for me.
Heh I look forward to Tron 2.0 myself, and Tribes Vengeance, I didn't even know that was coming out, I'll have to look at that one too.

i like bf 1942 better, but that might be because i can play without lagging my plane into the side of a mountain etc in that game~
if they had a bf 1942 the size of planetside THAT would be an uber game, planetside lacks the detail bf1942 does, for example as a sniper best you can really do in PS is hide behind some rocks and shit or up on a mountain etc, bf 1942 you can do that, plus crawl into some unerbrush or go prone in some towers etc.
the house to house fighting in bf1942 is also just a lot more fun to me than charging around inside sterile base tunnels that are all the same, for example you can sit back in the shadows of a room while scoping through a window and peg someone across the stree/field in the next building, or lob a grenade from your house into someone elses, etc.
can also solo in bf1942 (and any other fps) much better than PS, in PS you are almost forced to operate in sizeable groups because you need a host of abilities to be effective much like in EQ where you would need a enchanter, cleric, tank, snarer, monk etc etc. i have had bf1942 games where ive gotten 140+ kills entirely on foot with NO deaths from being stealthy and slinking around picking people off, getting even 10 to 1 kill ratio in PS is pretty hard to do wityhout joining the vehicle borg.
or taking the u boats off an enemy ship, and parking a ways out from the big enemy ships and picking people off on the deck etc =P
plus im not really a fan of sci fi, OR leveling.....
i wish someone would come out with a pvp intensive pirate theme mmorpg, make the combat somewhat twitch based but slowed down a bit, like the swordcombat could be something like that old sega game bushido blade, the musket combat would be like an fps, but 1 shot every 20 - 30 seconds like real muskets of the day, and the shots effectiveness would be depending on where the person was hit, also since slowshots no need for the cone of fire crap, and it could be pixel perfect, BUT ad a ballistics simulator and things like crosswind, bullet drop etc to make a sharpshooter in the game really good, ships cannons would be similar.
oh well wishful thinking, probably wouldnt be to popular anyway since it would require more than 30 IQ pts to play i guess =P

Yeah, I play DoD alot, I've been playing since the original alpha came out, I was like holy shit this is the coolest mod i've ever played. Back then it was only like 50 of us who played and then it got real popular which I really really loved because then there was always a server up and new people to meet.
The only thing that sucks about BF1942 is the melee part with a BAR gun and other weapons, it takes a full clip to take someone down. If BF1942 had DoD fps that would fucking kick so much ass.
Darwoth, you might check out the pirates of the carribean (seadogs 2) game coming out, it's going to be really bad ass but it's only single player =(.... good news is Keira Knightly who stars in the film (Pirates of the Carribean) which comes out July 9th will be a voice and part narrator in it... she is so fucking hot. But yeah it's fucking morrowind but in a different setting which is really cool.

BF1942 is a great game. 140+ kills in one game darwoth? Thats fucking crazy, all sniping? You should check out the Desert Combat mod for BF1942 its pretty cool. I can't hit moving targets worth shit as a sniper in bf1942, how do you do it?
Im pretty good as a pilot though, ive gotten 80 kills in a zero once from ground and air kills.

yeah was an insane game, like every shot i took i beaned someone in the forehead it seemed lol, the way i hit moving targets is i watch the direction they are moving and will put the reticle dot in front of them and as soon as the edge of their head appears on the dot i pop em, by the time the game registers the shot and it surfs through the lag etc the shot usually places right in the center, you need to have under a 100 ping to make this work good though, also turn all graphics settings down so you dont have any choppiness or graphic lag because if the bogies are chopping aroudn the screen obviously that will cause problems to.
one of my favorite sniping maps by far is the demo map, wake island, i have about a dozen favorite spots that i hide in which allows me to see a large radius, some of them i have bogies walk right overtop of me and not notice =P
most are also close to an ammo crate so you can restock during lulls.
also one of my FAVORITE things to do on that map is get into an airplane and fly out to the japanese aircraft carrier, bail out and parachute into the water nearby and steal one of their u boats, then drive far far out, to just within visibility of the aircraft carrier, open the doors and lay down on the deck and pick off all the people waiting for airplanes, they usually think it is someone on the boat somewhere and dont notice you sitting out in the water, the few times they do its a simple matter of driving away =P
best thing to do as a sniper is not follow the battles around, just find a few good spots to move between at or near an area that is usually a hotly contested one ( a few aircraft guns around are also good so that planes dont have free reign, random bombings get old when your laying on the ground =P)

Well, as time is such valuable resource for someone like me (moreso then cash even), I must spend my time resource carefully in my gaming. As such, i have kinda set my gaming goals for one game at a time where i put all my effort intot hat single game.
I would much rather be on top of a single game, then middle of road at a bunch. Sure sure....I know i miss alot of stuff, but it takes me a while to master games....and then alot longer to stop enjoying to constant beating i get to give those who have not mastered it :)
IN PS (at home on dsl) I often get 40 or 50 kills before someone gets me. It's possible, but it takes time. My first two weeks of PS found me getting killed more then i was killing...which sucked. You just have to find your niche...what you are good at....and keep at it. It's all about practice. After a few weeks of gettign smoked, you learn...and get better....and do the smokin'!
And yes, the reaver in huge wars is NOT a good idea. First of all...every TR newb carries the stryker (tracking missle)...second...everyone is shooting at u....and lastly (most importantly), my puter has a hard time loading hundreds of people on my screen at once as fast as i am spinning around in my reaver. As such, I pound the ground in big wars. I have three options that i use for those situations....

So will a 1.6mhz with 512 Rambus and a Geforce2 do okay in game? I want to get a better video card eventually, but can't afford it right now.
