Just a few questions:
-In terms of gameplay is planetside closer to quake type games where you usually fight 1 person at a time, or like tribes where u attack a group and they kill your weakest people that can do the most damage the fastest or best player and then move on to the weaker combat players?
-is there any lag? i wont play a FPS if my ping is over 50, i can handle 60 but thats when it starts to get annoying (yes im spoiled on broadband since it came out). I don't see a way there could be good pings on a MMFPS (mass multiplayer first person shooter)even tribes w/ 25 people on a server was lagged to fuck w/ spikes every 20 seconds, not to mention the crappy interface that glitched and bugged like a mother fucker.
-My comp is a 900 mhz, 640 ram, 64 mb graffix card, cable modem, 19" moniter
-do some people use bots (a program that controls your character and gives godlike accuracy (like hitting someone w/ a pistol from 700m away),
-is the damage proportional (head hits will almost always kill the person no matter the gun, leg hits do little damage, chest hits give medium damage w/ a bleed effect) or something to this effect?
-is there any penalty to getting hit, like the weaker you are the slower you are, or if u get shot in leg you walk slow? or is it like Quake where u are always 100% of your ability until you die?
-if you get hit do you temporarily loose your aim like in halo?
-if your runing is ur accuracy skewed or do you always shoot dead on even when ur flying through the air after jumping off a plane?
Some advice on all FPS:.
I have been playing FPS since i was 8 and my 2 best pieces of advice to anyone who wants to be badass is First, get a big moniter.... i can't stress this enough, when i was addicted to Q2 me and my friend had 2 comps and our backs were to eachother, one with a 15" and one w/ a 19", the person who always fucked the other person up was the 19" moniter. The other advice is learn to strafe/side step. Even an experianced person will have trouble hitting you w/ a non-splash weapon (splash is a shotgun or shooting a rocket launcher on the ground). You gotta use the mouse to look then bind 4 adjacent keys to forward, strafe left, strafe right, backward, they dont have to be in a straight line, i still use the arrow keys but i seen alot of good people use the w, a, d, and x keys and have all the keys around it hot keys... if you use the arrow keys and dont want to change thats fine, u can bind the numpad keys and ctrl shift and enter.

questions can be answered when looking up online or just reading the forums, there are a bunch of posts here that can answer your questions. Also, thanks for putting all that "FPS Advice", we obviously are all retarded and havent played games before. I mean using the mouse to look! JESUS shoulda thought of that! Strafing around!? i mean all of the members of darkenbane, or at least 90% of them were from EQ a first person game, not FPS but FPRPG which hold the same idea in movement. who are you btw? sorry if im bitchin you out, but i dont understand why you are trying to give a 101 class on FPS shooters to a gaming forum whose members are all well learned in all games.
nooch~

heheh I was thinking the same thing.
Besides, who the hell would EVER use strafe!
(Yes that was sarcasm)

He was an old eq player back in the day.
And less than 60 ping? Good luck achieving that on any mmog. Your computer and ping won't even allow you to play the game in your terms, so I am not going to bother answering the other questions. Min requirements are 1000 mhz, I have a 1500 mhz and stutter in huge zerg wars.

There is alot of different sitautions in PS. Just about all of the above at any given time from 1 on 1s to HUGE ZERG battles with hundreds of people.

Well my ping is like 150 at home and i do fine. Its around 700 on my wireless (while working) and i have a little bit more trouble, but i still kill alot of folks. but surely not as good as at home.

Yer puter is a bit weak. Keep video settings on low. U should upgrade yer video card and processor...and memory :)
-do some people use bots (a program that controls your character and gives godlike accuracy (like hitting someone w/ a pistol from 700m away),
Its a cone of fire system. Accuracy is important, but it mostly has to do with keeping a cool head under fire.
-is the damage proportional (head hits will almost always kill the person no matter the gun, leg hits do little damage, chest hits give medium damage w/ a bleed effect) or something to this effect?
No, hitting in the toe is as good as a head shot.
-is there any penalty to getting hit, like the weaker you are the slower you are, or if u get shot in leg you walk slow? or is it like Quake where u are always 100% of your ability until you die?
Only penalty is with stamina loss from using implants. Otherwise, no.
-if you get hit do you temporarily loose your aim like in halo?
Getting hit, running, walk9ing...crouching....alot of stuff effects your accuracy.
-if your runing is ur accuracy skewed or do you always shoot dead on even when ur flying through the air after jumping off a plane?
Running really messes with yer accuracy.

Thanks gray i really appretiate your help. and to the flamers: i offer advice as something to help, not something you read and get all about because you take offense that somehow i am implying that you are a noob. I could tell about many advanced stratagies such as how diagnol mouse movement can increase accuracy and the other complex stratagies that you wouldnt understand without a page of describing, but that wasnt my intention... my intention was to offer my best 2 peices of advice, you dont know how many people i have seen that used either arrow keys as additional turn keys rather then strafe. I didnt know eq had a function called /gems until i played the game for 2 1/2 years, when educating or offering advice or a fix to a problem the best route is to always start with the basics and then work into more specific fields. When a person says my car broke down, a mechanic doesnt instantly say you must have ran it without oil, causing it to over heat, eventually leading a piston to sieze. They ask them what happened, noises it made, etc. If you dont want my advice thats fine, im not forcing you to read it.
If you dont want to help me by answering my questions, thats fine im sorry if i wasted your time by never playing the game before and not knowing the answers, but you dont have to waste mine with mindless comments. Furthermore i ask questions because i seek your help, help that takes your time and desire to assist people, help that takes you very few minutes to answer, but if i were to search the internet would take around 30 minutes. Again, i thank you gray. I was used to play eq, started playing a few months after the game came out and played for years, was in DB a while and had friends while i wasnt in the guild. If your ping is around 150, does that mean your shots are delayed a bit, so in order to hit someone you have to aim a bit ahead of them(thats how it was in Quake), or is it based on where they are, on your system, when you shoot so even a person w/ 300 ping has instant shots (similar to how it was in jedi knight)

That's because they didn't put in the game until about 3 years in. Verant cares more about keeping all the Blues downtime nice and busy with faggy games than by caring about PVP servers and the like. Same old story. :)
The point here with the flames Stope is your coming to a messageboard FILLED with nothing but gamers. It would be like me walking into a seminar of surgeons and taking the podium and announcing that clean surgical tools are much safer than dirty ones.

For the record, Stope, if i was not busy kissing people's asses to recruit, I woulda' flamed you too! Now get PS and kill folks with us ;p
Rahne is right on the money with his analogy ;p I always thought of myself as a surgeon of gamers! hehe
Speakin' of you, Rahne (and recruiting good folks), are yah gonna play?
I will be perfectly honest:
PS is worth the money. Its not gonna last forever, but it is for sure worth several months of fun gameplay if you like FPS, PvP and Massively Multiplayer at ALL!
And they are about to institute OUTFIT base captures...where we tag a base DARKENBANE if we capture it :) (well they have mentioned trying to figure out how to impelement it).

I'm already playing on Konreid with other HIV guys. I'm a br5 NC adv. hacker. It's a big learning curve but I'm starting to get used to it, little by little.
GrayRage

It's actually a MUCH larger learning curve then people orignally suspect. I have seen alot of BR 8s who have no clue how to play the game  *cough*
To bad you guys did not go on Emerald. More = Fun in PS. Ah well, glad yer havin' fun :)

I was interested in Emerald, primarily because the ping seemed better than all the others, but.... I am but one man, slave to his friends. ;)
Yeah, I almost gave up on the Infiltrator, but I remembered how much learning an Engineer in BF1942 was a pain in the ass, but it ended up being the most fun.

^^ hahahahaha great analogy.
yea stope, I don't know you at all, so don't get all edgy about some flames. Plus, being on a Darkenbane message board where all of us have the tendency and urge to flame people (bitches :) ) i didn't think you'd find much offense to it. Plus you gotta admit for a guild like Darkenbane that has been around for a long ass time should be above the level of "beginner" for games. Anyways, if you will be under DB tag then ill see you in game man.
P.s. New video card in T minus 2 weeks :( better then never eh? Im getting PS, but i really want another MMORPG to occupy my time till WoW and not quite sure of SB after all the talk about it. What games are DB members currently playing other then PS, SB, and SWG?

Worst sound you can hear in BF while driving a tank, Clink Clink Clink...... pokes head out of turret to see 3 sticks of Explosives ..
last words ...OH SHITTTTTT..
BF is still a blast...:D

I love the Jeep Sheep. Sometimes as an Engineer I will stand out in the middle of the road, waiting.... or if I see an approaching jeep.
They ALWAYS want to hit the player. Lay mine, Hilarity ensues.
I lost no love for bf1942 hehe, deert combat is fun as hell too

bf1942 is such a fun game. I'll be sniping and all of a sudden a tank will shoot some guy and his body will fly like 30 feet in my direction, hilarious:D
I have a joystick and I have a lot of fun flying. I haven't played version 1.4 in a while, and wtf? I started playing 1.4 a few days ago and I got in a mustang. The thing turned so SLOW! I noticed a lack turning speed in all the planes actually. Im pretty sure the mustang was nerfed tho cuz that old bird used to fly alot faster..
But flying is still a blast though. I like flying 2 feet above the ground and running troops over with my plane. Hey -- saves ammo!!(alot more fun too then shooting em:D )
I've played Desert combat and thats a great mod! In fact, I think I play DC more than bf1942. Maybe thats why the old WWII planes seem alot slower hehe. The only thing that annoys me in DC is the new radio voices.. god I cant stand them anymore. version 0.35 just used bf1942's radio voices which was a lot better. Now you have to listen to george bush on the radio commands in version 0.38

One thing i did notice a cool, but very important feature of PS is the sound. Unlike EQ where i had sound turned off most if not all of the time, PS is sound mandatory.
Given u have surround sound (and every gamer should!), you can hear everything goin on around you. Yu can hear people walking up on you, shots being fired....explosions....everyting and it is is based on which way you are facing. So if you hear it behind you....it's happening behind you.
I often find snipers by the sound of their shots even when they are not shooting at me. It's very impressive.

thats the way it was with quake2, an experianced player on the Edge could always tell where you were and where you were heading from the sounds you made.
