everything would be fine if you had DSL or cable. A dialup will run it, but it will be very shitty lag.

You will run the game fine and on decent settings too. But your dial up will preclude you from the big 1000 people HUGE fights. If you stay away from the gargantuan battles, u will be fine.

Two things,
Dial up is a no-no in this game, I can't get DSL or cable so Im stuck with 56k. The game really loses its fun when you have to play on a 56k. However, Brenlain seems to play just fine with his, but I can't stand it.
Also, I may be wrong but I think Planetside is a DirectX9 game and I THINK radeon 9700 only support directx8. Again, I am only relying on my memory here.

Matt,
I am using a geforce 2 64 meg card :) I think what u are referring to is the new cards which use the Direct x 9 instructions. But its not necessary, just makes it work better.
All of the cards are compatible with dx9 tho. Just don;t use the goodies.
Also, bren does good on his dial up? hehe. Is that when he is AFK for 10 mins at a time...or is he just lagged ;p?

well seeing as I always have to be where the action is...
I'm gonna see if i can get optimum online cable
It just came to my town and i hear its only like 15$ more than what i'm paying now (go figure theres 180000 ppl in my city and its the last to get cable =p)
I should be able to play well with the aforementioned stats and cable?

Ok guys how about this set up:
2.0 Ghz AMD w/333 mhz bus
Gf4 Ti-4200 128 MB ram 8x AGP
512 MB DDR Ram (might go higher)
DSL connection (through shitty bellsouth though)
Could that handle the big 1000 man fire fights?

Has anyone else noticed an increase in lag in the last week? Since I re-rolled I have noticed a lot more lag. I have an Athlon 2100 512DDR 2700 (nForce 2 Chipset) GeForce 4400 (128) and cable internet (rock solid since I got it). I notice it at times even when I am not too close to the action.
Is it the team :) or is it just bad luck?

Bear Chest good setup, however, I'd get an ATI radeon 9600 agp video card (140 bucks on ebay) instead of the TI 4200 and get 1 gig of ram. I just prefer ATI Radeon over GEforce (even though their new 5900 ultra is now the top of line card), also ram is so important in games, try and do 1 gig if you can or higher, 512 for new games is shit these days. Also what hard drive are you getting, try and get atleast a 7200 rpm drive with atleast 8 mb cache, don't get one of those cheap 2 mb cache drives. Hard drives are cheap, don't waiste your money on a peice of shit. With that setup you'll be good with WoW and PS for awhile. You could probably over clock that fairly easy too. Oh and get an aluminum case, that's important as well.
