Either way the news makes it out im going to play this game...
10% of the zones are PVP and 90% arent ... lets see i only spend 100% of my time in 10% of EQ's zones so im pretty sure the high end game is where the action will be. Basically the want pvp just no newb griefing ... also what im hearing is the leet gear and lootz will be dropping in these zones with the bad ass effects/graphics such as epic efx and cool looking symbolysm on gear. They also will be having zone control and guild building attacks so guilds can fight over a vitual city which is pretty nasty and sounds mad fun.. you get to keep control of this virtual zone until after a period of time the GM's will make the next even where you have to defend it this time. I think DB will enjoy this.. also by talking to admins they told me they have a team of pkers at work 24/7 who will be taking control of random NPC's and attacking you with them.. so when you are doing an Event like AoW or some mob the creature may be controlled by a real life person..
PvP zones:
Darkenbanes mission: to occupy these territorries for us only as much as we possibly can and keep it all for ourselves cuz we are selfish pricks and we love it. Basically what im hearing is this is the place you'll wanna be for the good stuff. Also... GM's will be creating massive PvP events for attacking towns and what not.. and i kinda think its cool that everyone has to buy tickets to watch DB kick everyones ass. This is gonna be fun even with all the bitching ive done about a 100% pvp server even though that may not happen this might be where its at. Ill be completely content with us in the pvp zones farming all the leet shit and only us. Other guilds will have to shiver before they enter the pvp zones with darkenbane present.

I got a dollar they have a hard core PvP server and all the other ones (the blueby ones) are like what you are describing. A DOLLAR! Taking bets now ;p

I still think it's too early to predict something like that to be honest. I think with further development on the game will unravel whether they will have a pvp server or just AD gayness servers.

well i can safely say if they dont have a 100% pvp server i wont waste my time.

i played dark age of camelot where 50% of the world was non pvp and everything about the "end game" was pvp related, after a month or so the pvp enabled zones were empty.

with 90% of the world non pvp there is absolutely 100% NO REASON to venture into the 10% that is, and that is not pvp anyway, that is the same thing as retarded arena fighting in everquest.

real pvp is where you can be attacked anywhere anytime and have to constantly cover your ass, real pvp is keeping on the look out for ambushes, real pvp is when you are conducting a large scale event you have at least one group to provide security for the event from other players.

a game where the pussies can jump in to a corner of the game with 50 people then run away with no retribution is not a pvp game.

massive GM organized pvp battles?

lol, ive had my share opf massive battles across EQ, DAOC, and SB and i can say that massive battles fucking suck, not only do they always turn into giant lagfests where you cant play at 100% effectiveness, but there is absolutely no skill in massive battles, 3 or 4 people latch onto your dick and you run or die, massive battles reward the massive zergling force, not individual skill or small group skill which is where this guild has always shined in pvp.

GM controlled NPCs? whoop dee doo fighting some stupid ass PVE mob that i dont want to fight anyway so that we can get the l33t l00t off of it that i dont want to camp/farm to begin with will be controlled by some GM making it twice as hard, sounds GREAT!

it also sounds as though they are lining up the game to be in line with fucking loot farming, and i will NEVER again play a game that requires you to collect such and such item to remain competitive, which of course requires you to camp said item for such and such time, OR gather 50 people who all also want said item and roll for it with them.

more i hear about this game more i think it will suck.

cool done..
im getting alot of backing from Zek heads from eq so there is alot of activity on the boards for a pvp server.

I agree with most of what Darwoth said (cept i think they will cater to the pvp crowd) except:

it also sounds as though they are lining up the game to be in line with fucking loot farming, and i will NEVER again play a game that requires you to collect such and such item to remain competitive, which of course requires you to camp said item for such and such time, OR gather 50 people who all also want said item and roll for it with them.

Unfortuntely, this is what creates the longevity of a game. Character development is why we played EQ so long and what made it fun. There MUST be rewards for people who put the time into their characters (loot farming and leveling) or newbies will be as powerful as veterens which = veterens leaving.

I like the idea of dynamic camps and zones where we have our OWN zone to do an events or camp an item without having to wait in line or worry about someone buggin us. This will allow us to do our PvE crap how and when we want to and even enjoy it (i enjoy PvE just fine). But the general areas should be PvP.

if game developers cant think of something to make their game more interesting then the carrot and mule syndrom everquest type loot bullshit then that speaks volumes about the game right there.

when i play a game i want to pk, not pve so that i can get items REQUIRED to effectively pvp.

since they are making their game a bland and boring blue world however i can see that item hoarding is the only thing available to keep people interested.

I do think character development is needed, otherwise the game would be uninteresting and suck (unless it's like Tribes and a zerg fest). I like roleplaying games to where I can gain better items for my character throughout my play time. However, I don't like it when I have to compete against a guild (AD) who have no lives what-so-ever and do nothing but play (said MMO). Then it's not fun because then it's not a challenge, and defeats the whole purpose of playing a pvp (server/game). Planetside had a neat idea of character development that didn't really effect anything at all, but was more of an added bonus. A Battle Rank 1 character can kill a Battle Rank 5000000 character, it's just who has better skills (sort of, exempting CoF which is gay because you can't really miss most people and takes *real* skill out, but fun never-the-less).

i think loot and items should be in tune with the way ultima onlines are, gear is important but not crippling.

quality equipment is an advantage, but a guy with a newbie dagger can still fuck you up if hes good.

early everquests loot system was fine to, it wasnt until velious with the various 20 sv all type pieces began to pop up when the truly retarded loot began to come out.

Exactly, if they could make the lootable drops more evenly balanced (pre luclin/velious) then it doesn't matter about the play time because it would only make a minor difference. Unfortunately there will always be expansions that base their sales off of "uber l33t new l00t". If they could make expansions like kunark that didn't upset the balance then it would be absolutely perfect. but then you have to realize there are 90% bluebie servers where all they can do is get "l33t loot", so they are selling more towards them. UO was a great game, if they could make a more updated version of it that would kick ass ( I heard they canceled a UO 2, is this true?)

Shadowbane wasn't too horrible, the market was flooded with halfway decent items, or hell you could make your own merchant. The only camp you REALLY had to do was Discs, if you didn't want to buy them.

I like the idea of planetside where I get exp from killing people. That's both concepts of a game rolled up into one. Experiencing for character development, and killing players for exp. a perfect match.

i like planetside too. its mad fun but how long we gonna play it..
its not like EQ where you just cant stop playing it.. it gets old quick.
I how WoW has good Rare items with decent pve and a good end game pvp type setup.

I'm looking forward to WoW just like the next guy, but i bet we don't see a release date until next summer, but now that EQ2 is being made i'm leaning towards 2 opinions, 1 its going to take till summer, the other that they will try to compete with EQ2 and launch around same time (near christmas).... (yeah i know they wont have to compete but im sure they want sony's customers)

Yeah, the beta is gonna start in Aug or Sept of this year and the game won't release for 10 or 11 months afterward. I sure hope i get in on that beta...cause then i won;t have to buy the game after beating it in a year for free ;p (BTW....the previous statement was me being very sarcastic)

Betas usually do not go more then 2 months. Blizzard needs to make money. It costs money to pay all the people working on WoW...so the longer it is in development = the bigger production cost. As such, I can pretty comfortably say it will not be coming out next summer ;p

My best guess is it will be out by Christmas if not sooner. If beta is in August...add NO MORE then 3 months for release.
