ok, so the last week or so a bunch of my friends have been using my PC lots. one of them tried playing a few videos a few days ago and they wouldn't play. so, then, i didn't think anything of it, i just thought it'd work after a reboot or something. went to play a video last night and it did the same thing. you double click one and it shows up with a purely grey screen, but sound works. i dont know if one of my buddies fucked shit up or what. anyone have a clue what i could try doing or what the prob may be?

(note: it does it with any video player i try to open them with)

Has it played DvD's in the past? If not, then you might need to instal the DvD player software which is not standard.

If it used to play DvD's, but no longer does, then you might need to check your video card driver and check window's update for your puter.

yeah dude it used to play shit and now it doesn't. it's all weird, i updated my video cards drivers about a month ago, too. it worked fine after i updated em. they must have gotten jacked up somehow. before i made the post i was too lazy to download the drivers and reinstall again. downloading them now.

In Windows explorer does your D: drive show up (if you d drive is the dvd player)? Can u browse folders and stuff on your dvd drive? Try a regular cd in there...does it play music?

yeah everything was normal except the grey screen shit. i tried reinstalling the newest vid card driver, didn't work. i installed old vid card driver, THEN installed new one and it worked. weird...

yeah i've been checking that thread out - i haven't been able to find the gaming section to do the tweaks for games. i did some of the regular tweaks. i am thinking about formatting right before my classes start up again, anyways, which is in 2 weeks.

Blackstar.
Your problem would be that dont have the right codec's. notthin else.

Try downloading Nimo 7 and Xvid.

http://www.xvid.org/downloads.html

For nimo just get build 7. as the other has some bugs. lots have complained about it.

well here is the link : http://nimo.titanesk.com/modules/freecontent/index.php?id=2

Tell me if it works :p

Edit : I use windowmediaplayer 9 and radlight to watch movies with.

New Edit : took the time to read all the posts made and saw that i fixed it :\ but get the codec's anyways, if u dont already have them.

it is not a codec problem.
