Anyone have a link to that site that explains which things to turn off? I just finally got XP, and haven't crashed once in about 8 hours of play...Still I want it running the best it can.

check http://www.blackviper.com That has a page for turing off the shit processes.
Also go to:
Start menu
Select RUN
type in MSCONFIG
select START UP ITEMS
Turn all that shit off.
I will also find another page with some good tweaks for your cache and shit altho its pretty easy.

Well I tweaked it the way he had it for gaming, except for the network part. Anyway XP is running even better now, I get almost no start up lag in PS, and it loads areas even faster.

Yeah, u gotta ditch alot of those retarded processes which are serious memory hogs. Here is another one:
-Start menu
-RIGHT CLICK My Computer
-Select PROPERTIES
-Select ADVANCED
-under performance push SETTINGS
-clcik the ADVANCED tab
-under virtual memory click CHANGE
-slect the radio button next to CUSTOM
-plug in for minimum AND maximum two times your total ram. so if you have 512 meg of system ram, plug 1024 in both min and max fields then hit SET. If u have 1 gig of memory put 2000 in both of these fields.
This sets up your cache to be far more efficient for gaming then the windows default. Also, when you defrag your system (and you should every two weeks or so), set botht he min and max at ZERO until after the defrag. This will make sure your system defrags the page memory area of the hardrive as well as the rest of the HD.
If you use an nvidia card, lemee know...there is some stuff u can change there as well.
ALSO, get 3dmark03 from downloads.com and test yer puter each time u make changes to see if it help. We can also compare our 3dmark score like comparing dick sizes ect....
Lisa's puter got a 6000 on her 3dmark...for 1200 bucks!

Ok I did the ram change, and I am downloading 3dmark right now. Its 177 megs! I would have thought it would be like 400 kbs....heh
After all the 98 crap I went through I never knew a comp could work so well :)

Well I got a 3236, looks like Lisa's is bigger
Might have to OC this chip like I was planning on doing anyway..
Gray why didn't you post your score? Is hers bigger than yours too?

lol, i scored a 1700 :p Mine is not even worth mentioning tho I plan on building myself a new puter just like i did lisa's.
Her scored jumped from a 2700 to a 6000 by just changing out my fx5600 for the fx5900 ultra. sure....it was $300 more, but my god what a difference.
I also clocked up her memory from 166mhz (333 fsb) to 169mhz and uped her clock multiplier from 13 to 13.5. With an AMD 2700 i have her up to 2.3 ghz which is pretty good. I have not bothered to OC the video card cause she is just fine where she is now. Also she has a gig of ram.
When I do mine, I may use the AMD 3200 instead and the upgraded antec case. Otherwise I like the rig she has...it runs with the big dogs at only $1200 to make :)
If yer gonna try OCing, I will find a good article for u...will post it later.

toady, OC your Video Card bro a bit. download this filecool (http://home.nyc.rr.com/pbeq/cool.zip) when you do it, click in your nvidia drivers and then click on clock frequencies. put them to 510/930
enjoy your awesome speeds :)
if you can get into your bios setup, make sure you can up your FSB by 10 megahertz if you cant, then dont but try it if you can.

Yeah, download and execute coolbits which enter's a registry command for nvidia cards which unlocks a secret option to overclock your card. After executing coolbits do the following:
- Right Click your desktop
- Select Properties
- Select Settings
- Change from 32 bit to 16 bit colors (the human eye cannot really tell the differnce, but it's big performance hit).
- Select ADVANCED
- Select your card (the tab on the top)
- For perf and qual settings the first tab should be BALANCED, the second OFF (not on application, but OFF which is the second notch), the 3rd lever OFF
- For open GL make sure both radio buttons are off. Make sure color depth default is desktop. Vert Sync shold be OFF. PCI mode memory should not matter as u should be in AGP mode.
- Under clock frequencies, I suggest clicking the TEST button and let your system set it. If not, read around or use the ones Pizz posted. If u have good coolong (which alienware does have) u CAN overclock your video card). DO NOT GO NUTS THO OR BYE BYE CARD!
- In AGP settings make sure fast write is enabled.
That's a very respetable score, toad. If u OC yer v card, it will jump up some more. U can prolly OC yer system ram and cpu also, but u need to read up on how with yer particular bios/mb.

So yall know anything about OCing a ATI Radeon 9600? Supposibly its "built around overclocking". I have never OCed anything though so I don't know where to start.

Matt (Exivate) knows how to do them. Sure he will post it when he reads here.
