Continuing to follow the path that they are thinking of PvP, check this article out:

Here is a quote that got my attention:
After a few alpha revisions, we decided to break the work up into outdoor content for soloing, dungeons that offer cool loot and encourage grouping to succeed, and heavy boss encounters that require large guilds to take out.
This means DB will need to field 40 + active hard core players in our raid times. (every night). So u fuckers better be ready. Gonna need to get our DKP system up and runnign too. Meter? :) We WILL need this...DKP = success! And if we get it started from day one it will reward the guys who start out strong with us! DKP DKP DKP!
As a deep role-playing game, World of Warcraft has a primarily skill- and ability-based combat system rather than a twitch system. There is still plenty of timing involved, and players will have to coordinate their abilities to defeat tougher monsters by being tactical and strategizing. Players will also have to utilize their abilities, and there are lots of them, in order to succeed. There are also plenty of stealth elements in the game, which should really play out in PvP, but can also be highly effective against monsters and in dungeons
AGAIN, he mentions PVP! Let me tell you, based on how often they talk about PvP, I am pretty damn sure they thinking about it.
Along with the PvP system, we feel that there should be plenty of things to do other than straight combat versus monsters.
OMG! Ok ok. U guys said:
1. there was gonna be no PvP in WoW, right? WRONG!
2. And now what is the new thing....WoW will not be out til' next summer?
Refer to number 1!
When you play a game with thousands of other players, there are times when you want to be social and feel like part of a populated world, and there are times where you want to feel heroic and special. Instancing gives players their own private dungeon, or part of the world, so that they can have epic encounters and special events that aren't going to be spoiled by crowds or long lines of people "waiting to kill the dragon." Instancing is going to be a very key part of allowing us to provide those types of special encounters that wouldn't be possible otherwise. It will also cut down on camping and help control item farming.
I REALLY dig this. This MAY allow us to be pure PKs and not ally up with anyone. If this works like i think it will work, we will be able to be evil meanies AND get the same gear as the goody goody's! Let's wait and see.
Mark Kern: We definitely want the hard core gamer to feel that the game is deep enough and rich enough in content to last them indefinitely.
Doh! That's us!
Mark Kern: We are already in internal alpha, and anyone at Blizzard can log into the game and play, even from home. Depending on how the alpha goes, we will have a closed beta towards the end of the year. The beta is going to be very large, and we'll need thousands of people to help populate the world. The entire development team is really anxious to see how the game feels with lots of living, breathing gamers adventuring, questing and exploring the world they've worked so hard to create. Gamers interested in participating in the beta should watch our web pages in the coming months for more info on how to sign up.
We will be playing WoW in a couple of Months! (altho only beta...hopefully a bunch of us will get in).
