Blizzard just updated their FAQ. Let me give you the once sentence that is the sole reason that I wont play WOW (for now).
What type of PvP will you offer?
...Therefore, we plan to incorporate a form of player conflict into the World of Warcraft. However, players who do not wish to be participate in PvP combat will not be required to do so...
Atleast Sony has the decency to make pvp servers for EQ2.

You mean it will be like EQ with the /PK option? You mean it will be like EQ where PK's can't compete with the invuln carebear masses? You mean they haven't programmed WOW with PK in mind form the ground up? You mean the people that make games arn't even gamers themselves??
You'd think carebear games turn a better profit than PK oriented games!

Before you over react my friend, have you ever played DAoC? There isn't PvP in all zones....you can choose to go to the zones in which there is PvP. Perhaps that is what WoW is doing. And who knows...if there is a demand for an all PvP zone server...I'm sure Blizzard will open one :)

DAoC was intended for PvP from the get go...they just set it up so you had none and could level like a maniac if thats what you wanted before you hit the PvP "Realms".

Actually if you read into the sentence Stofferr, it alludes to the possibility of a pure PvP server. However, players who do not wish to be participate in PvP combat will not be required to do so...(they can chose to start on a non-PvP enabled server). They haven't exactly declared their intentions and that sentence can be taken many ways. When I read it, it tells me there will be PvP and non-PvP servers to choose from the start....
Guess we'll hafta wait and see~

Well there shouldn't be any gay zones IMO. You should have to choose to be a carebear or not based on the server you pick. Either the server has PvP or it does not, that way you can kill everyone on the PVP servers in all zones.

You worry to much stofferr :) I can assure that WoW PvP will be far superior to whatever PvP they have in EQ2 based on how often they address the PvP community.
Think of it like this: Sony has STATED that they are making a PvE game with ZERO consideration for PvP in EQ2. WoW at least says they are balancing for PvP and have PvP in mind throughout development. NOT to mention that every single Blizzard game has had enormous PvP support with diablo being the ONLY game that was almost ALL vPvP.
Don't forget that 3 of their 4 games are MOSTLY pvp (starcraft, warcraft2 and warcrat3). Even tho DIablo was mostly designed for PvE...they still did their best to stuff some PvP in there.

Wow. Massive responce!!! =) one at a time.
You mean it will be like EQ with the /PK option?
I dont know about a /pk option, that did not apply to my server.

Oh my god i hope not. I betaed DAoC and bought it on release, and it was the biggest dissapointment yet. To pvp in DAoC, you had to run for 10 mins, then wait at a portal for 10 mins, then run through an area where every mob would OMGWTFPWNEDWITHSTRAWBERRIES you and then MAYBE, just MAYBE, you would get some action. No, I hate pvp restrictions of any type, and i'll die happy if i never see DAoC again.
Actually if you read into the sentence Stofferr, it alludes to the possibility of a pure PvP server.
Well, since the game is not out yet, no one knows if they will make one, but so far, the only thing i've heard yet, was that there are no plans for one at this point. I would not be suprised if they made one, but im not waiting 4 months for it, like DAoC.

AMEN.

Nope, Sony has already said publically that pvp servers will be available, they have not tho, stated the rules for such.
So for now, im staying far away from WOW. Weather or not i'll play comes down to how much they do for pvp.

Lol
Anyway, DAoC was the worst game I can say I have ever played. I dont want people to have an option to pvp, i want there to be a seperate server where it's enforced. None of this carebare turn in note to Priest of Discord deal just to pvp someone.

Time for me to be a fortune teller. I can tell the future:
DB's min level is 50 (in WoW) when Stofferr realizes EQ2 blows chunks of mcnuggets from his butt. He comes to WoW and say "NEATO Beaver! This game rocks! Invite me to guild please!"
Response: "Get level 50" :p
Bets?
This is the deal: Start with us...play with us...play ALOT when it goes retail!!

Gray, you already bet me a whole dollar as to if there is a pure pvp server, which i'm saying there isn't, but i'm hopeful.
You better pay up, or i'll have to kill all of your cats :(

If the game didn't have "warcraft" in the title it wouldn't get attention, it just be another of the generic carebear MMORPGs to be released within the next 6 months.

With the argueably the best game developers in the industry combined with the most financial backing any other game in history has received.
But otherwise yer correct

Blizzard has been all about PVP, Sure Diablo, Starcraft, and Warcraft had 1P scenario modes, but they took a back seat in development, Blizzard knew what people wanted. Blizzard still knows what people want, they look at the data, and conclude the vast majority are put off by PVP in an MMORPG.
If money\big names = good game
then I predict
Diaktana = World of Warcraft.

I wont be faced with that problem. One of 2 things will happen.
1. Blizzard pulls their dick of out the carebears asses and publically announce a pvp server prior to launch. This means i will be there from the minute the servers go live.
2. Blizzard has a semi pvp system (lvl AND zonebased is what I hear so far, wow, thats DAoC WITH and extra restriction). This means i wont touch this game at any cost. You cant even pay me to play such a game. Im sorry, if you want to be "teh l33t CRAFT0R OF W4RES", your welcome to do that, but tradeskills bore me. If theres no pvp, I wont be playing it.

I think they will do it. This just added to the FAQ
Will there be player-vs.-player servers on which players can fight other players anywhere in the world?
We have discussed such a setup, but we haven't made any final decisions on this yet.
Dont go throwing in the towel before round 1. Lets see what happens.

Ok let me see if i understand posts so far. When game comes out if there is a PvP DB will go to it. If not will find a server. Is that essentially correct?

I dont know if you guys have ever played MUD's before but alot of them have the option (either when you start the character or half way through the leveling process) to stay non pk or become pk. Usually you cant change your status after becoming a pk (as to prevent people from abusing it in a fight) so its possible that they may impliment that in the game.
Otherwise everyone who has played EQ knows what zone pvp would be like (I dont think anyone enjoyed zoning 15 times just to have them pull the plug) or having the great race to the safe zone (or the nearest lake to avoid your spells :P). The only reason why they wouldnt want a pvp server from what i can see is so they dont have to hear peoples whining when they lose Uber loot #001 and waste a bunch of money paying GM's to do crowd control on the pvp guilds. Beta will give the best idea on the game, though if they are going to have pvp at all they better set if up soon...

For some odd reason when I see the name calrenkarn the image of a gnome dressed in blue armor happily trodding a few steps behind either Jotok or Kalu comes to my mind.

I would rather play a semi pk server then play any server on EQ2.
1# I'll fork out all the cash to get all the expansions and just get banned 4 to 5 time like EQ.
2# The pvp balance will suck ass. One or two classes will rule the server. It wont be item loot.
3# Everyone knows EQ will always be geared toward Bluebie servers and they could care less about what goes on in the pvp servers. They just put a pvp server up to make extra cash.
4# Gray will be leading WoW. *all hail the leader*!= fun raids great guild battles and guild structure.
5# (Astoron) needs new game play, worlds and sheep to feed his bloody habits. EQ2 will be just like EQ but with better graphics. I need something new.
But hey thats just me. It's whats ever floats your porno boat. Some people still love EQ but with all the banning and GM shit that went on with us on RZ I dont think I'll ever be able to love EQ again. Unless it has really changed and the cyber faggots(Pigs, cops and GM's) really lay off the rules.
Stofferr Stuffing atleast try it before ya knock it or atleast wait until beta to see whats up. Then you can have sex with it or burn it to hell all you want.

When I read something like "I wont play the game unless there is 100% pvp everywhere" I fail to see why.
Theres several reasons why blizzard may choose not to make a pvp server, and honestly I wouldn't blame them. They are building the game to be a PvE game, that is affected by PvP battles in arenas and some kind of zone structe where you take things over from the other alliance. Thats what I have understood so far. I'm under the impression every server will have a PvP part where your battleing the other alliance..for something, who knows what. Blizzard is trying to tell a story, read the 30-40 page story that comes in the manual with WC3 and play that game. The story is deep, its there for quests, its there for raids, its there to make thier MMORPG better then anyone elses.
They have said you cannot group with people in the other alliance, so that emans you probably wont even see people in the other alliance when you go to hunt, because if you did see them, and couldn't kill them imagine the Kill stealing battles that would cause. I'd imagine that anywhere you might run into the other alliance you will be able to PvP right? We'll see I guess.
Blizzard might not make all PvP servers because they want people to play the game how they wanted it to be played. They make good games, and even if they dont have all out PvP servers, I do belevie the PvP they do have will be at least better then EQ's pvp.

First of all, I hope for all the peeps here that there WILL be the kind of unrestricted, or at least plentiful, PvP that ya'll want. Gray was right, SB was sooo close to the magic formula, if they'da had more cash in less time, it could have been sweet.
But I've read the site, and frankly I don't think it's in the cards. When I see "maybe" on a promo site, even Blizzard's, I read "no". And nine times out of ten, that's the way it is. So even factoring in the one-in-ten that is a "yes", that's a lot of not-pvp answers to the questions posted here.
So we'll see I guess. I'm sure the game will be quality; Blizzard games always are. But they've said, over and over, that PVE is the focus, and they've been watching EQ, and SB, long enough to know that bluebies pay the bills.
Me? I want to construct something beautiful. And I want to be able to rip people apart. In the same game. That's the MMO for me, we'll see if WoW has it ;P

Oh ya, and the combat has to actually be FUN, and challenging in a player-skill kind of way. That's the #1 deal now. I don't care from graphics, bells and shit, I wants me some fun fucking combat.
Dhabu
Most likely WoW will have dedicated PvP servers and looking at just the spells and abilities on websites it seems to have alot of pvp potential.
EQ2= 200 levels, which means they lacked the creativity to think of anything BUT a larger lvling treadmill to entertain players.
PLUS A MERCHANT CLASS, anytime a game introduces a merchant class I lose my faith in their PVP system. Atleast WoW is trying to incorporate PVP, instead of creating a medieval Sims Online.

blizzard has yet to make a bad game. I've played with blizz developers in EQ on rz and sz, and in SB. I bet 99% that they will have PvP
