Might not be saying much with the quality of the MMORPGs out there now.
UI is a slight learning curve. Remember, change your keyboard style to compact (FPS style), let go of the mouse and never touch it again...
Grapics are by far the best I've seen and that includes upcoming titles. Gameplay (after you get used to the interface) again the best I've seen. You can set up a macro to not only cast spells, use spcial attacks, lockon and follow your target (if melee) but you can create macros to switch equipment which is very useful.
The game is pretty much made for the PS2 but you can avoid using that menu until you absolutely must by scripting good macros. I never use the menu unless I'm shopping or going through the treasure collection of the party.
PvP is coming very soon (Dec so expect to be involved in Jan) so they're answering the call.
One character can be everything the game has to offer. You can only use 2 jobs at any given time (after you complete a quest at lvl 18) but you can level them all if you like. Linkshell is basically guild connection (more of a common chat. Not uncommon to see people with several linkshells).
Cut scenes, many quest; some of them supporting a main plot (yes a main plot!) and enough crafting, leveling, adventure to raise the replay value high above the other titles currently out there.
IGN gave the game a 10
Other sites have rated it lower but everyone I've spoken to who has come from other games say it's the best MMORPG they've played so far.
Few games have promised what they are currently doing and only one what has promised what you see here looks promising (WoW). Talking to console gamers means nerfs will be few and far between which is another huge plus.
I dunno what else to tell you... I just canceled galaxies (wasn't playing it anyway) and don't plan on Zerging in PlanetSide anytime soon (not until I become a Paladin in FFXI)...

The FF series is FUCKING INCREDIBLE. Honestly they are absolutely amazing games all the way through. But with WOW Beta around the corner FF and that would be too much. Pick one or the other and OF COURSE you are going to pick WOW

Yar...I think i should spend my time working on DKP and our charter for WoW instead of playing a game I might have only a month to play :p Ah well, if WoW disapoints.....

Play FF.
When you get used to the jap setup (I swear, those people must have 1532 fingers to use these controls), its a fucking awesome game.
Its not like you cant play the WoW beta just because you buy FF, and no ones certain of getting in the beta. So buy the goddamn game and play it till you get the bata =).

Ok I don't know where you guys have seen this before in an MMORPG but I sure haven't...
1. Wind blowing, pushing dirt and grass past you as the treed sway in the *right direction*
2. Watched a caster prepare a spell and her little skirt (long blouse) began to wave as if there was air beneath her (her power). Her hair and anything else that looked like it should've moved did so as well...
3. Quest that make you care what happens. When was the last time you just wanted to do a quest to see what someone had to say or you actually cared about the character (what they bring to the plot) enough to see it through. I'll be the first to tell you in EQ all I did was look a chart. This_Item = This_Quest so I did the quest. Here it's different. You start doing missions and I don't think you'll play another game until perhaps WoW but at this point WoW better be something you throw up and make sunshine with because this game sure as hell is...
3.a Cut Scenes... I don't know how far some of you are in the missions but I'm rank 2 now and have done my fair share of quest... When you quest it's like you're playing a solo RPG again. I mean, it's off the chart. WoW promises cut scenes as well but I doubt they'll look as well and be as involved as what I've seen here. Maybe they'll be interactive like FF. I sure hope so...
4. No limit in sight for your advancement.... You can be a lvl 70 everything the game has to offer... On ONE CHARACTER!!! Sure you can only use 2 jobs at a time after 18 and people will say but there will be clones... We all know that there are clones in every MMORPG because it doesn't take people very long to figure out the best combination for their desired role...
5. Skill links! This is by far the coolest thing I've seen in an MMORPG so far... Here's an example. I use this one all the time when I'm running a party:
PlayerA will use "Fast Blade" (Warrior Skill)
PlayerB will follow with "Burning Blade" (Warrior Skill)
PlayerC will follow with "Combo" (Monk Skill)
For each attack that makes it in before another player can strike and ruin the link, bonus damage is done and I gotta tell you the special effects for these types of moves are kick ass... More so when you skill link. On a tough mob you're looking at a bonus of about 35 - 50 damage from the first linked strike. You get your normal damage of whatever and then another damage message for the bonus from the skill link. This one alone is so damn nasty that the monk usually never gets a chance to get his off because it's already dead.
This game is way above the rest. I'm gonna sign up for WoW beta and purchase the game but I gotta tell you... It better be something god like or it has no chance of beating FFXI
Oh and on PvP: Blizzard is all about war not PK so we can all be realistic and understand that it will probably be some kind of set areas for PvP or set conditions. It wont be wide open as we hope. This basically means that FFXI will have pretty damn close to the same PvP unless WoW some how delivers PK instead of PvP.
Not directly comparing it to WoW because I think it's better than WoW. I think WoW is going to be worth the play but I now know FFXI is. Only reason I compared it to WoW is because WoW looks like it could be a huge it. I'm staying away from EQ2 for a while. After Galaxies I think I'm done with Sony MMORPG products... I'll let other people play, bitch, SOE respond and nerf *before* I play this time.
