Yes, this server has had it all for us! It had the highest population for the first few days of ALL the servers as masses of folks came to try their hand at the "hard core" server. It brought back the days of old EQ and the lowby wars before resists, before AAs and before insta kill crap. It brought to us, some fun and entertaining battles where death MEANT something and thrill of such a harsh penalty intrigued everyone! The excitment was there, the fun prevalent and many claimed Sony had done us right by tossing this sucker in there for us when we thought they were done! This surely qualifies as "the Good"!
But alas, it was not meant to stay with us forever as the cheating reared it's ugly head and became so common. What was once a myth or tale made up by those who were killed and needed an excuse for why they got owned, became a FACT as the cheats were so commonly used. These are not passive informational cheats, my friends, no indeed. These are the big dogs that allow a player to have virtually GM powers popping them from zone to zone anywhere they desire to go! Oh, and it does not stop there! I will not say the name of the DBer, but today, let's call this dber Studlyman, well he ran across some level 6 zooming around. For some reason he was not full health and got popped fast to death. Looting this fellow's corpse, Studlyman found 6200 plat on the corpse! Whats even funnier is Studlyman could not move at all with this much plat on him, so how was this newb running around like a feather?! Fact is the cheating is OUT of control and so little is being done about it by Sony that it qualifies as the "The Bad".
Folks continue to play, cheat and kill people daily. Why is it so hard to track these folks and remove them? Is it true the servers simply do not keep track of this kind of cheating at all, thus Sony just has no tools to catch them? Well the least I can do is make some effort to name the ones we KNOW are cheating and knwo that these are definaltely NOT the only ones:
Killeran - Just complete, total blatant cheating. His hacks are comparable to Highlander and Landrovers. He does them all without worry and has been doing them day in and day out. He dupes, zone pops, speed hacks....u name it, he does it. (Update: Killeran zone popped on some blueb high level guy that was sitting next to high level guards and got insta killed ;p Talk about a tard.)
Saromon - This guy uses it less then Killeran (trying to be discreet I suppose only using it in emergencies) but non the less has been 100% comfirmed as he was mezzed and blinded this morning in front of 4 people and simply disapeered. He casted no spells, but somehow was back in Nektulos. Paniced because he was blind and mezzed? Time to use the trusty cheat. UPDATE: All day today this guy has become blatant in his use of the cheats. He is completely overconfident at this point because he has not been banned for it, but he uses it constantly now.
And then there is the Discord. The population of the server is so low now that the only killing going on seems to be the mobs. We see 6 29th level pluses leveling Stonebrunt, port there, only to watch them gate and camp before we take 3 steps. If we gather a good PvP group, there simply is no one who will fight. They just gate or camp. Oh, don't get me wrong, in the weeeee hours of night, bogies make PK groups as well, but find so many DBers have gotten bored of watching everyone camp/gate from us, there is no one to fight! At first I thought the /who thing was a GOOD thing, but now I am wondering if it is just a tool to avoid PvP. Perhaps a TRUE hardcore server would not only have no /who all, but not even a /who! Imagine if folks could not even see if ANYONE else was in the zone at all! But then there is SEQ. /shrug.
Somehow, on the most hard core server ever, the PvP is gone. Whatever the case may be, some DBers are planning on a Discord II and sign ups can be seen here.
UPDATE: As if to make me look silly, tonight was a giant mass of huge PvP battles! some 22+ anti-pks marshalled against DB tonight! After two different battles the antis lost 4 (40 mage, 35+ ranger, 35+ mage, 20+ Enchanter) whilst we lost Bylo (30 wiz) (altho Morph ran intot he ghey horse in lesser fay and got smoked, dammit). The battles were fun as both forces manaevered for best advantage. Perhaps the only shitty part of the entire affair was Saromon's consistant use of zone hacks (which we believed crashed Lesser Fay on the second battle). I hope the GMs check this guy soon and get rid of him. The more blatant he uses the hacks, the more folks will think it is ok and use them also. EVERYONE KNOWS he uses it too. By letting him remain in game, it encourages others to try them.
