Well, as folks by now should know, Discord was the temporary "hard core" Everquest server where death resets a person to level 1 and all of their gear is lootable. 27,000 characters (only 1 per account was allowed) were made on Discord over it's month long life with it topping the population server list for the first few days. Darkenbane, entered the competition among many other organized Guilds and ended up completely dominating the server. Anyone above level 6 was forced to camp or flee as DBers swept across the globe. The end result found 4 out of the 6 winners Darkenbane with one being left out because his name violated the naming policy (Apostle). Sony made 2 posts about the selection process and then the winner post which I will go over.

<i><b>"While you are waiting for the winners..
Some interesting Discord tidbits for you to peruse.

Over Discords nearly four week run you all created over 27000 characters there.

The majority were Humans at 19%, with Dark Elves coming in second at 14%.

The Vah Shir were the least played race at a mere .1% of the Discord population, poor kitties.

Dark Elf necromancers were the most common race/class combo and necromancers were the most common class overall.

One character managed to make it to level 44 (a High Elf cleric) and stay there, with several others leveling to the mid 40's and high 30's.

There were so many looted corpses I can't even get the logs to pull them all but a rough guess would be about 1000 a day.

We hope you enjoyed Discord. We will be evaluating the results of this cycle prior to announcing any new contests or server rule sets.

We know that there were some problems with cheaters and we appreciate all of your help, as a community, in tracking them down. Our programmers are working on new code to try and remove even more of the cheats they are using but we will still need your help. Please, if you can, take the time to submit your feedback regarding Discord using the Submit Comment link below.

Thanks much for all of your help.

Brenlo the Statistician"</i></b>

As you can see from Brenlo's post, they confirmed that no one who used hacks will be considered for victory. Also, he made it pretty clear that ALOT of folks tried their hand at this server. Unfortuntely, the "naming policy" nailed one of us as he was left off the list. Apostle had more points then several guys named on that list (I am sure WAY more then that level 18 necro none of us ever heard of). In any case, here is Sony's announcement of the winners:

<i><b>"And the Discord Winners Are....
Here they are, the top six player killers on Discord. These are the 6 that showed the most tenacity and resolve. They fought against unspeakable odds to make their mark on the world of Norrath. These six persevered when others faltered to fight for their honor and beliefs. Let us gather together and praise these six Discord heroes for all they have accomplished in the last four weeks. Each of these adventurers is the essence of PK perfection, the bringer of terror and chaos to all who fell before them. They are the pinnacles of Discord.

So without any further ado and with great pleasure I would like to ask you all to join me in congratulating....

Your Discord Champions!!

Redwin the 24th level Halfling druid
Dang the 24th level Gnome magician
Awakened the 20th level High Elf wizard
Korpo the 24th level Gnome magician
Searyx the 37th level Dark Elf cleric
Trindamere the 18th level Dark Elf necromancer

Congratulations to you all. Well done indeed!

Brenlo the Master of Ceremonies"</i></b>

Congratulations goes out surely to the winners who I will now go over in detail:

<i>Redwin the 24th level Halfling druid</i> - Darkenbane's MUCH better version of the "Sams", Redwin was always helpful to all DBers and alot of fun in Teamspeak and on Discord. He was always smart in his PvP and never made mistakes. His enemies hated him whilst his friends all respected him. He was from Sullon Zek and had considerable experience as a "hard core" PvPer!

<i>Dang the 24th level Gnome magician</i> - Another member of Darkenbane, Dang came from both Sullon Zek (Nine, Vindi, ToW) and Rallos Zek prior to that. Having a long history of PvP paid off on Discord as she was methodical in her killing alongside many friends. Well respected among the guild, Dang was yet another member who was deserved of this honor!

<i>Awakened the 20th level High Elf wizard</i> - A newer member of Darkenbane, Awakened (a 24th Wizzie not 20th) quickly found a home amonst fellow PKers. It was a rocky start, however, as he almost was removed for accidentally killing his own mates (not checking the channel). Instead, he paid a penalty and helped his "victims" level back up :D Soon, Awakened became the butt of many jokes implying he was cleaning out more DBers then the anti-DBers! All joking aside, the reason he was allowed to remain DB was because everyone liked him and enjoyed him as a fellow killer. Additionally, Awakened was often used by us as "bait" to catch cheaters as we camped in a trap spot and waited for them to pop on top of the "solo" Awkakened. They found out quickly enough he was not so solo after all! He is undoubtedly a great PvPer and earned this honor!

<i>Korpo the 24th level Gnome magician</i> - Korpo was the final Darkenbane LISTED as a winner of the Discord competition and was a feared Gnome Mage on Antonica around the Oasis area. He often utilized ambush strategies to kill foes who usually gated or camped anytime he was within a zone of them. He would camp at a well known leveling spot of victims and then login after determining they were in his trap. Our guild channel often got the pleasure of his stories of wiping out almost full groups as he suprised them uncamping right in the middle of them! A clever Pker indeed deserved this win!

<i>Searyx the 37th level Dark Elf cleric</i> - This person often lead the resistance against Darkenbane and was one of the folks responsibilbe for the little organization they had. He had some class as a PvPer and never talked shit after a defeat. We are not quite sure how he got his points as he was an "anti-PKer" and did not kill many DBers that we are aware of, but suspect other anti-Pkers "sacced" to him to boost his points. He did admit that folks in their alliance were using cheats (Saromon specifically), but at the least was not a hypocryt accusing DB of using them whilst hanging out with known hackers. Whatever the case may be, if a non DBer was to win, I cannot think of someone who would deserve it more then someone who often organized the resistance against us and did so with class.

<i>Trindamere the 18th level Dark Elf necromancer</i> - We have no clue who this is.

Finally, I would like to give props to a guy who we KNOW had the points to be on this list and we KNOW did not cheat or hack, but was left off of it because his name violated Sony's naming policy.

<i>Apostle the 44th High Elf Cleric</i> - Part of the Pyratt/Farglebump brother combo, they are from Sullon Zek and surely prived their mettle there as a Druid/Ranger combo feared among their foes. On Discord, they again showed their PvP prowess right fromthe start killing a then level 30+ Kirban Necromancer. His brother played Skervy a level 40ish mage who died, but then rerolled to MAthias a Ranger. Apostle never died and was feared throughout the server. He and his brother were a great PK combo and deserved a spot on this list. It's sad they were left off.

It was a great effort by everyone and alot of fun! If there is a Discord II before we start the World of Warcraft beta, look for DB once again!

That server looked interesting I may want to give it a shot, depending on how school goes.

I was relunctant to try it at first due to the massive disappoints I have gotten from SOE.

To clarify, both Trindamere and Searyx were part of the loose-knit "Caustic" crew that was organized from the better players that used to play on TZ (see http://pub148.ezboard.com/ftallonzektimes4735generaldiscussion.showMessage?t opicID=47195.topic). When I say "loose-knit," we really were. Many of us quit halfway into the server, including me (Dumpling), but Searyx and several others kept going. The reason you probably have no idea who Trindamere is is because he quit about halfway into the server, after amassing a large newbie gank score. He hadn't even been playing for weeks, which is the irony of it all.

Oh, and nobody "sacced" to Searyx for points.

None of us cheated. None of us used SEQ. None of us used any third party programs, and none of us "sacced." I'm afraid that kind of behavior belongs on the other side of the fence.

And I'm not sure how you figure how Searyx was an "Anti-PKer." Simply because he wasn't in DB? Sure, he was Anti-DB, but that's because you had to be if you *weren't* DB.

Thanx for the info.

None of us cheated. None of us used SEQ. None of us used any third party programs, and none of us "sacced."

If i had a dime for all the folks who said they did not use SEQ, but were, I would be quite the rich man. I am not saying you are a liar or anything, but claiming for other people that they do not use something is silly IMHO. As for Saying none of them used hacks, Sear admitted that he was aware of a companion o his using hack quite blatantly. I have the pictures and such if he ever denied it (which I doubt he will as he seemed pretty honest). The person in question is Saromon and spent considerble time with Sear.

on the other hand, we spent zero time with any known cheaters. Why he did not attack and kill (or try) this fellow he KNEW was cheating is beyond me, but it surely tarnished the image you are trying to paint of him being an all out clean cut no cheater type of fellow.

As for him not getting any "sacs", I wonder how he got his points then? You claim he was NOT an anti PKer, yet he and the others in that channel never randomly attacked anyone that I was aware of. They invited anyone who was NOT db on the server to come fight against DB. How is that not the defination of anti-pker?

Again, I could be mistaken and Sear might have run around bringing the fear of death to everyone in every zone he went to as a scary PKer, but I just did not get this impression ;p

I also have screen shots of guys running with Sear who openly admitted they were anti-Pkers....(the screen shots were not taken because of that admission but because it involved their lack of organization.)

Don't get me wrong, anyone who got on that list surely did something right to get there and should get kudos, but somethings I know to be true:

1. ALOT of people used/use SEQ on Discord. ALOT more then admitted it to be sure. People denying that they use it is the norm, but their actions prove different. The bottom line is the only way to sort it out is for Sony to fix it or just add it as an expansion to the game.

2. Alot of people used hacks, but I do not believe anyone on that list did.

Thanks for the acknowledgement DB, you guys were more than formidable opponents. I had somewhere in the mid 100's PKP, though I had to quit playing 4 days before the server went down. I'd guess about 40% came from newbie kills early on, 32 from Bylo, 16 from a 33 Druid, 16 from a 22 Druid, and 12 from Misterbig.

I can assure you no one sacced to me, and I wasn't that much of an "anti pker". My original plan was to kill everyone but a select few from TZ, which is what we did up untill level 20 or so. By that time, it was plainly obvious that the gnomes/DB were going to take over the server unless something was done, and much of our small crew had died or quit playing. So, me being a Cleric, I had to have allies somewhere. Anyone who tried to go FFA against an entire organized guild died out pretty quickly.

I allied myself with several crews, starting with the Ogres. I did not like these guys much - they were from blue servers and were impossible to organize. To their credit, they were good at leveling up. Eventually they died to Stichx (a blatant hacker) and a few others.

After this came the human crew. Most of them were competent players and we actually had a chance of winning. Some very bad luck and a few missed opportunities broke this alliance down.

Last was the SZ/TZ alliance, which wasn't much of anything. I'm not even sure why I bothered with this one, but Kirban seemed like a pretty good ally at the time. Several of them probably used hacks, and I know Saroman (sp) did. This was near the end of the server and I didn't stay with them long. Me and Vumil, 45 Necro you may have run into a few times and easily my best ally, had tenatively planned to kill everyone during the final days of the server... but he died due to some *really* unfortunate spectre pathing/warping.

Anyways, kudos to you guys, I was pretty impressed (by the organization in particular). The few of you I talked to in tells seemed cool enough.

I believe u about the "sac" thing which means u definately earned yer spot ;p

It's funny how 2 clerics were in the top 6 (well one got ganked because of his name). Who'd a thunk that? ;p

Yah we tried to get Vumil a few times, but he was a cautious bugger. We tried everything from as simple as just porting in to Feerot, to porting into CT (closer to sprectres). We even tried campign at the spectres to wait for him to come back and level.

Couldn't get him tho ;p

Incidentally, we confirmed Ascetic was using the same cheats as Saromon, Highlander, Landrover and Soul. He just did not use them nearly as much (until the last day when we chased him around all day and there was no one left for him to hang out with). I suppose we should have guessed it tho considering he hung out with every single one of the most widely known users of the hacks. Even in the end, we could not get him (insta zoneing is tough to get a kill against), but the fool bound himself in Oggok, so we trained the SK guildmaster to his bind point and made him insta gate into him :) Needless to say...he did not have the chance to hit his insta zone button again ;p

In any case, we did the best we cold to police any of the folks in DB using any hacks.

Grats on your win.

"Trindamere" here. DB may get a kick out of this, but I was actually in DB for a short period of time on SZ when Gladius Fatalis (TZ people) broke up and many joined DB. Ruin was number one enemy at that time, it was pretty early on in the server.

As Synth said, my strategy was basically noob gank to amass a large point total initially, and then just try to survive. I went out of town for a couple days starting X-mas eve, and the day I got back I was on the leaderboard. I was pretty surprised, Karma and the previous leaders died I guess, bumping me up.

From then on, I only logged in at random times to kill a noob to bump the score and to keep it current and then logged out again. A different type of strategy, but my point total was pretty high nonetheless and it appeared to work.

So, that's why people who were not around the Nek area for the 1st two weeks of the server would not know me. You guys had a good showing, 4/6 is solid, and everyone agrees that Apostle got shafted.

See you guys on Discord II. (If there is one)

Heh, you make your strategy SOUND simple, but we all know it's not. The hardest part of what you did (to get on the top 6) is not make stupid mistakes.

I made a necro to start (like you) and died like 3 times to simply telling my pet to attack the wrong target ;p It's SOOOOOOO hard not to make silly ass mistakes and death can often come soo fast. Killing some folks, staying alive and NOT using a cheat is what got yah on the list and THAT, sir, was no easy task.

Grats ;p

I think that listing (despite the omission on Pete and Matt) says it all. '`grats to all DB.

I wanted to give props to Pete and Matt (Pyratt and Farglebump) who I've known since SZ and as well as in Shadow Consortium in SB. Those two are a nasty team who I look forward to running with more in WoW.

Side Note: You'll never guess who joined us in SB..............
............ Waddle (aka Manshoon) IC from R30/ScornedDeath joining TDA of the DreadLords. Isn't that about the oddest shit you've ver heard?

Although I've used that name alot, he and I are not the same person. I did not use the name Decadence on RZ. I do know who you are talking about as well as Kerrygetz, yourself and others back in the beginnings on RZ in South Karana, but at that time I was not in DB even though I was on RZ.

First off, congrats on DB for such an impressive showing. Very well done indeed.

But, I wanted to make a comment about:

Finally, I would like to give props to a guy who we KNOW had the points to be on this list and we KNOW did not cheat or hack, but was left off of it because his name violated Sony's naming policy.

Apostle the 44th High Elf Cleric - Part of the Pyratt/Farglebump brother combo, they are from Sullon Zek and surely prived their mettle there as a Druid/Ranger combo feared among their foes. On Discord, they again showed their PvP prowess right fromthe start killing a then level 30+ Kirban Necromancer.

I would just like to point out that on Sullon Zek, Pyratt & Farglembump are two of the biggest cheaters ever. Oh, you can add Kirban in on it as well. All three are full time hackers.

I will assume that you already knew this, and just didnt want to do any name-calling/finger-pointing that leads people to believe you might be a poor sport. As I did not play on Discord, I will not say what these three did or did not do. But make no mistake, they are (were) HUGE cheaters on SZ.

Once again congrats to DB. Also, it is very possible that cheating was the only way to "win" on this server, so it may be that congrats are in order to some cheaters as well. :D

Since the linkage brought me here, I figured I would say thanks for the entertaining read.
