Okay I'm using Windows Xp Pro (corp. edition) and I'm having the fucking hardest time with cookies. I even went so far as to reformat to try to fix the issue. One day out of the blue my comp decided not to like permament cookies. The session cookies worked fine but the permament ones were unable to be made. So, because of this and I wanted a fresh install of xp, I reformatted and put XP back on. Same fucking issue w/cookies. I went to a cookie test web page and it told me what I already know, I can't get permament cookies. All of my settings are to allow all cookies, to allow 1st and 3rd party. I even set my security to none to try to fix this. I went so far as to add specific websites to allow cookies from and it still wont work. Nothing has worked. I thought it might be some sort of firewall set up by my isp but sure as shit when I logged on my isp at my dads house w/his comp cookies worked just fine. He is running 98 though..

My question is.. if there is some sort of registry virus preventing cookies there is no way it would have survived reformating.. right? When I first installed xp I had no cookie issues. Then one day no permament cookies could be made. When I reformatted and reinstalled xp I had the cookie problems all over again. WTF. Is there any virus that survives a reformat? ;p Thats the ONLY thing I can think of that would do this.. and yet I don't see how even that could be the cause ugh :|

Hmph.. anyway if anyone has ANY idea.. gimme a yell. This cookie monster is fucking pissing me off :|

Formatting should have cured it to be sure. Does not sound like any virus either. I am thinking it's your modem or base station. If you have a modem that acts as a "router" or if u have a base station they are capable of doing these things. Here is how to check

1. Start menu
2. Run
3. Type in "command"
4. In the dos window type in "ipconfig"
5. Write down the number the denotes your modem's IP address.. It should be 192.something. It will not be your personal computer's number. if u are not sure what number this is copy and paste the data here or just do step 6 with all the numbers there ;p
6. Open up internet exploder and in the address box type in the IP address u found for number 5.
7. Fool around there in security settings as you will likely find the culprit.

At least this would be my first guess :)

Where are your temporary internet files stored? Select 'General' -> 'Settings' -> 'Move Folder' to select a new location. Maybe your current location does not exist or does not have enough space.

Yeah, pretty sure it was your modem. Many fast access modems have their own securty crap that u can mess with.

Okay the COOKIE MONSTER came back.. I THINK it is because I have no temp internet files folder. Can I just make one and where would I stick it?

Okay I've been working on this for hours... I've fucked around in every setting I can find still it does not work. I do have more info now though.

Websites are making the cookies and they are put in my folder. The problem seems to be when I go to the website again it doesn't look at the cookie :|

I'm using Win XP Corp. Ed. The problem happens with both IE and Opera. A fresh windows install did nothing.. the default settings should have allowed cookies to work..

Any ideas? :|
