i thought Dragon Empires got crushed??? Are they bringing it back?

I read on their news that funding stopped for the game so they halted production for it.

Must have the wrong game, It's been healthily developed by Codemasters for quite some time.

What is Dragon Empires?
Dragon Empires is a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game where you take on a character from one of three races and fifteen classes, do battle with dangerous monsters, fight through deadly dungeons, explore 580 square miles of stunning terrain or just hang out with your friends in the city you rule. These options and many more are available to every player in Dragon Empires.

Central to the game is the battle for the ownership of 50 cities scattered throughout the world. City ownership is the ultimate status symbol for any clan and it allows them to make their mark on the world. Clans can expand their cities, foster trade, create a strong economy and fight off outlaws so they may protect their position of power.

If the battle for cities doesn't interest you then you can head off into the wilderness to hunt monsters or player outlaws who prey on traders in your area. If the mood takes you, why not choose to be an outlaw yourself and strike fear into the hearts of all you meet!

If making money is most important to you, the life of a trader and merchant may be the road you chose. Build your mercantile skills and start producing goods. Even while you are offline or asleep your factory will continue to make items to be sold in your local city's marketplace and when you log back in you may wish to further craft these goods into special enhanced items.

Will you be a devious merchant, struggling for economic dominance, or will you be a bounty hunter, removing the outlaw threat from the land? Or perhaps you will simply make a living manufacturing and trading goods between cities? These are some of the choices you are free to make!

Guildwars also looks good. All good options should WoW drop the ball.

I really like the idea of property ownership by a guild.. Lineage 2 has a good idea im just not fond of the no 1st person view deal.... The part that turns me on to the game is how they say there are 50 cities throughout the world and a clan owning a city is the ultimate status symbol... Makes me wonder do the cities start small and get bigger and badder... And does the uberest guild get the baddest ass city??? Sounds cool... What i also really like is in L2 if your guild controls the City you can raid the dungeons underneath the castle which is supposes to have the coolest shit.

Dragon Empires Beta Testing

Dear Bryan

Hi, my name is Ted Carron, I am the producer for Dragon Empires.

This email is to thank you for registering with the project. Everyone who has registered will be in line to beta test Dragon Empires. Right now we are in the very early stages of closed beta testing and have a handful of people involved. We will continue to add more to this number roughly every month. Eventually you too will be invited to join in and make Dragon Empires great!

Now I would like to tell you can help the game before you get to test. Your help and the help of others like you who have shown an interest will be very useful to us in ensuring that the finished game lives up to everyone's expectations. You can help in two ways, firstly you can read our newsletter, you should receive a newsletter like this twice a month. In our newsletters we will let you know how development is going and give you screenshots and competition info before anyone else. Also, you will be the first to read the history behind the game's world (developed through cooperation with our team and Piers Anthony) when it is released. Secondly, you can join our forums and discuss elements of game design, Dragon Empires and whatever else takes your fancy! You can find the forums here. We take pride in the fact that we regularly talk to and listen to our fans.

Meanwhile, contact our Community Liaison Manager Peter, PeterT@codemasters.com if you have any urgent issues you need addressed.

With your help we can ensure that Dragon Empires is the way you want it to be!

Thank You

Ted Carron

Maybe for once somebody does listen???? Say its isnt so

As for lineage 2 ... I visited sinisters website and they are having a hell of a time playing it....

I posted about 3 months ago about what I didnt like about the game...
The point and click movement like diablo sucked and the fact that you cant see 1st person view....

Well It looks like they are fixing this... Keyboard movement is being patched into the game now and they may be working on the 1st person view as well..
I'll keep everyone updated.

An email sent back from the GM of Lineage 2.. This response took only a few hours.

Bryan,

Two of the three things you mentioned will be in the game before it launches.

First person view will be in open beta.
New keyboard movements will be added by Chronicle 1 and more in 2.

The way the characters run you may have to live with for awhile

If you have any questions feel free to reply to this e-mail

Thanks

Looks like they are fixing the most important things.

if the point and click movement is like that of shadowbanes its actually an ok system, takes a day or two to get used to after playing twitchy games like EQ etc. for a long time, but it is certainly better overall as it allows you to see a much larger area and all of your groupmates/bogies during skirmishes.

edit: the city thing sounds like another zergling clusterfuck, as in shadowbane eventually 90% of the server would lump together in huge mega nations of between 500 - 1000 players, lineage should take a note from that and put a number cap on guilds, say 50 people or so, or even less.

this would not prevent alliances, but it would make a tidal wave of zergling retards significantly more difficult to deploy.

The only way to stop the mega alliances is to limit guild/alliance sizes and disrupt communication (no commincation in game between guilds/alliances). Otherwise folks will always flock to the herd.

Mebe even go so far as to hard code some kind of dot that effects non guilded people (damages them over time if they linger near non guilded folks) to prevent people from herding in massive zerg herds and exploiting any hard code non communication thingy
