Feds are pumping in a ton of cash to the draft... if they start it up how will you get out of it?

I'm flat footed so I can't be drafted :D

There's more to this... here is the links
House Bill (http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/C?c108:./temp/~c108RtTHqY)
Senate Bill (http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/C?c108:./temp/~c108SknYzE)
SEC. 2. NATIONAL SERVICE OBLIGATION.(a) OBLIGATION FOR YOUNG PERSONS- It is the obligation of every citizen of the United States, and every other person residing in the United States, who is between the ages of 18 and 26 to perform a period of national service as prescribed in this Act unless exempted under the provisions of this Act.
b) FORM OF NATIONAL SERVICE- National service under this Act shall be performed either--1) as a member of an active or reserve component of the uniformed services; or2) in a civilian capacity that, as determined by the President, promotes the national defense, including national or community service and homeland security.

This bill was introduced to both senate and house on 1/7/2003... If it wasn't an election year, many political watchers beleive it would have been picked up this year. This means it hasn't been voted on yet, but likely will be sometime following the elections this november. President Bush is spending 28$ million in order to have the selective service ready to report to him by March 31, 2005...

Go read the bill for yourself if you don't beleive me. I had asthma past the age of 12 and they told me when I tried to go to the AF academy that I would be inelegible for military service... but just to be safe, I still have my passport.

Darwoth

and i WANT to serve, but cant because i stabbed someone. go figure.

in the 60s every recruiter between here and crapifornia would of been tripping over feet to recruit me, but no room for someone who isnt afraid to hurt someone when need be in todays politically correct military.

Just what we need.. an army of Darwoths sabbing people because of their ethnicity. We're sure to win over the hearts and minds of the world now!

Dar there are ways around it.. :D

Actually, it is pretty tough now to get in the military. They won't even speak to a person without a GED/High School diploma. Hell, when I was in 14 years ago(I know, I know, I need gerital) they wouldn't accept my buddy because he had back zits.

That why I don't think this draft bill will go through. The military wants smart, educated ppl to run the advanced equipment of today. Not some Joe Schmoe retard that happen to have some bad luck and get drafted.

fuck the hearts and minds shit, saw how well that one worked in vietnam. when its time to go to war its time to kill people.

and no, there isnt a way around it, ive spoken to 3 diff recruiters.

I've been reading up on this all morning, and it looks like its being blown out of proportion for the moment. Those bills haven't really moved through house or senate yet, and 28$ million with that, while something to worry about, isn't that big of a deal yet.

Till I am 27 I will worry any time they bring up selective service :)

actually i dont want to join for purpose of saving ahab the camelherder from himself, the towelheads in iraq can all go fuck a cactus for as far as im concerned. i want to join to be able to travel the world and have unique experiences.

i was going to join marines and go for sniper (i am 100% confident id have made the cut no sweat, both marksmanship and stealth/fieldcraft)

cant get a much cooler job than trekking around with you and your partner picking off bogies as part of a cover fire op, or maybe a rare occasion of being assigned a high priority target.

So you were convicted of a fellony then?
That why you can't join?

At 27 you are no longer eligible for selective service, is that correct?!? I got 1 more year til im offically ineligible :D So lets hold off on WW3 for a year oh so, kthx~
Don't get me wrong, I'm no pussy and if a war were to EVER bring itself to the shores of the continental US I'd be the 1st in line to sign up w/o waiting around to be drafted. But being drafted to go 40,000miles and fight a war between 2 sets of fuckin dirty ragheads in the middle of the desert, there is no fuckin way!

I know in a very recent post of mine I ranted about how you won't hear racist/sexist or biased drivel come from my mouth. But in the same post (about gays) I talked about how I am a firm believer that behavior is a product of environment and if any of you grew up where I did (Edison, NJ) and went to school where I did (MCC / Rutgers) you would see that white people are the minority to "people of Middle Eastern descent" around here and probably develop the same dislike for "those people" as I did, kthx again~

I feel pretty much the same way. I have no interest in throwing my life away so that the Ken Lays of the world can pocket an extra few mil a year. If there was to be a war on OUR land though.. you bet I'd be there with my rifle sniping the sobs :p

Darwoth, as someone who served 6 years in the army (me), I can assure you that your difficulty in accpeting authority would preclude you from completing any military training and/or term of service. You just don;t have it in your personality. BTW this is why they treat you like dirt for the first 2 months...to root out the darwoth's who can't handle taking orders.

Oh, and I dunno why anyone would try to avoid the draft. If you ask me, it would be an adventure and fun. Look at it more as an experience then some ordeal. Sure, u might die...but u might die any day in a car accident too. Think about it like this:

something like 55,000 american troops died in the ENTIRE Vietnam war. More people then that die EVERY YEAR IN CAR ACCIDENTS in our country ALONE. So goin' to war is not all that dangerous....if yer an American :D (course our victims are not so lucky.....)

Gray, remember the first time getting off the bus, with the drill sgtS yelling you to move your ass while you fumbled around with you duffle bag. Then as soons as you got off the bus you got dropped for push-ups.

lol, good times.

Well, my boot camp was back in 84' at Ft. McClellan. It seems more like a movie a saw a long time ago then what I actually went through :) We got off the bus at close to midnight and everyone was pretty subdued. I know we did some fucked up shit where i felt like i was on a conveyer belt ;p

Tons of shots, people poking and prodding u, the hair cut and getting our uniforms and such ;p

One thing i do recall is that we had nice new barracks (as military police) and i was thankful for this after seeing other people's barracks ;p I still have my achievement certificate for maxing the physical readiness test. hehe i suppose i did well because they had me doing ALOT of pushups for being a fuck up ;p

Lemee think of some highlights.

1. I crashed a jeep during driving school.
2. I got laid by one of the MP chicks after the first 2 months (right before AIT).
3. I started doing pushups on my knuckles to piss off our drill sgts (feeble effort to show them the push ups did not bother me).

Lots of wierd shit in training but nothing compared to....well....the other stuff afterward.

Whatever the case may be, folks should welcome the chance to sign up. It's definately an experience where you can learn alot if you embrace it as opposed to fighting it.

I got to Mcellean in 90 so I think they changed the way it was done. I spent 3 days at a place where you did all your paperwork, got your equipment and uniforms before you ever saw your drill sgts. On the fourth day, you got up at 4:30 and were loaded onto a bus and driven to your drill sgt.

Had 10 guys quit the first 2 weeks in my platoon.

My highlights were:

1. Being the first MP company to train on that grenade machince gun. I forget the number. M-120 I think. Scared the shit out of some loggers down range because the shooting range we were at was to short.

2. Trashing another companys area on mischief night and our drill laughed their asses off about it.

3. Packs of Wild dogs running through our camp during a week in the field.

4. My first jump at 800 ft at Ft Benning.

I served 4 years in the marine corps and all the jobs sound cool until you get in there. I have been with an infantry unit, comm platoon, and Headquarters, and each one has its pros/cons. Its a hard life, which requires some serious discipline even more so for the marines. Sniper sounds like fun until you are outside barely breathing getting eaten alive by bugs in the rain. One thing you don;t have in the military is freedom of choice not to mention Rank>then all. If you can take a 19 year old Sgt telling you to scrub the shitters when in the civilian world you would have crushed him like a grape then you may make in the military. It was the best 4 years of my life and I got more pussy and saw more things than I had ever before. I made the best of it and the benefits are still coming

I think I'm legally blind. Does that count for getting out of the draft? Or will they make me wear those black giant freaking glasses? 8D

Dunno if it would work now, but back in the Vietnam draft people would hide sugar under their fingernails, then when it came time for the piss test, thewould just pee on their finger into the cup. Then the test came back that they had diabetes and they wouldn't be drafted.

Wouldn't testing positive to drugs stop them from drafting you? Smoke some weed the night before and you are sweet. Unless they call the police and have you arrested or something stupid like that :(

On the contrary, I think Darwoth would probably get the shit kicked out of him during boot training for having difficulty following orders, and then afterwards recommended for officer training
