Bored so trying out PS

Just downloaded the 7 days free trail. I thought it would be just like quake 2 or UT, just instant action but it seems more complicated then that. =) Anyone know good newbie tutorial sites?

edit: btw the PS sig needs an update. Going to design one with the new logo etc.

With all the guys trying PS out and shit I'm really going to try to keep our PS roster clean. Therefore, I don't want anyone with trials to be in the outfit until they make the decision as to if they like the game or not and subscribe. Once I get the charter posted up here everyone will have to review it for the guidelines, one of which requires DB members to obtain Battle Rank 12 before getting the invite to the outfit (I chose this for various reasons, you can read them in the outline of the charter once I post it later this week).

I understand, don't worry I will not accept an invite in to the outfit until I get the hang of this game and I feel I can atleast compete with the others. As for now I am just n00bing around mostly being cannon fodder, which was an awesome game btw but that is totaly besides the point. I still don't understand 4/5 of the game because I clicked away all the "anoying" help windows because I thought "WTF Help windows for a FPS, Who do you think you are talking to". Now it seems I should have payed more attention to them. =)

Sup! Not worried about my comp. I've got a pretty nice setup although L2 was a bit to much. But that's probably because they used an old engine. I am going to work on the sig this weekend.

Don't worry Toad. I will not stay around. Atleast I will not If I keep dying at the rate I am now. =P Somehow I keep getting owned by everyone I face head to head. Only when I am sniping I stay alive for more then 3 mins. Can someone tell me why it is always me dying when I go head to head with someone? I use the slightly better then n00b armor and the gaus gun with AP ammo. Wrong choice? Maybe I just plainly suk because I haven't played FPS games frequently for a long time. Damn MMPORG's =)

AP ammo is for armored targets only. It will not kill infantry (Reinforced Exo-suit, Agile Exo-suit, Infiltration Suit or Standard Exo-suit).


AP ammo is for taking out MAX units, vehicles, spitfire turrets, mines, equipment in bases, motion sensors, turrets.


Use standard armor for infantry targets.

Yeah AP ammo with the gauss is worthless, you best bet is to carry standard ammo and a decimator or phoenix for vehicles and Maxes.

Yeah, most deffinetly use reg ammo for softies, any hard target would make AP ammo usefull, but that's not often enough to even carry one box of it in your inventory. And try and use cover as much as possible, it helps.

Learn to use the 3rd person view VERY often, it's the easiest way to get a jump on your opponent and run up from behind em and waste em.

AV cert is the best thing you can do to help yourself get MAXs killed, decis rule them indoors, Phoenixes rule then at a long distance-ie tower to base.

Air calvary or mosquito is almost a neccesity too, especially since the ones of us that play together often(DB and Liberty) are very often on the move from place to place very quickly making sure our zerg can get the job done while we enjoy the small but much better battles(doing the important shit, that's us).

The other great thing to do if you have a 5 button mouse is to keymap your medpack(default F1) to one of your mouse buttons, along w/ any other implants that you'd use on a regular basis. Setting these things to your mouse buttons is much easier than moving your fingers to the "F" keys. Along w/ this set your inventory key closer to the hand that you use for movement, that away you can open and close your inventory much faster(I use the 't' key so that I can switch between my decis and gun quicker, of course if you have Reinforced exo suite then you can carry both and not have to do as much inventory switching, but being a pilot I don't wear it because you can't fly in rexo).

Also, having basic medical and basic engineering are a very very good way to stay alive longer. With these certs you can heal and repair yourself any time you can find cover.

Well, that's all the tips I can think of for now, hope this helps you out.

check out the VR training i did and it really helped, didnt make complete sense until i could apply what i was being shown in VR in real situations and a few questions but VR training covers the important stuff.

I still get killed as often as before but atleast I am able to bring down one before I die. =) I am only battle rank 6 at the moment so I have to choose carefully between certs. The self repair/heal sounds good but I will get that later because I drop in about 1-2 secs so there is not much to repair or heal. =) I didn't know the game has a 3rd person view. I am definatly going to try that. I did go through virtual training but as usual I just clicked the dialog away and started shooting a bit. I am going to do that again.

I am enjoying PS very much atm and if I still am in 3-4 days I guess I will get the full game after the trial period is over. Is the expansion a must or is it just a "nice to have"?

BTW: Is it just me or are the purples slighty overpowered atm? Somehow when fighting purples I die a lot faster and more often then when fighting reds.

i just learned about the greatness of the advanced targeting implant.

I also suggest the regen, and surge speed

the regen roxxors the most to me, but the advanced targeting really affects decisions alot!

but u can swich up every 24 hrs so be sure to experiment.

Also, i have a br5 vanu newbee on markov ( superL44Tgirl4000 ) with choice between a lasher and max suit ( 2 + 4 + 2 ).
Run around as a different team and u will see what NC weopons can own u.

Half of DB do not have the expansion and those who do have it, barely use it.

Yes, the Vanu Sovereignty (the purples) are very much overpowered at the moment.

I believe I've only played a couple hours with you during the night we did the Liberator night. You did very very well back there in that tailgunners position, I was quite proud.

i tried the 7 day trial as well and am contemplating buying the game. I do have a few questions. Most times I use the gauss and it works great outdoors; however, when inside I usually get owned. Whats a good gun to use for fighting inside bases? Is heavy assualt worth gettin I keep hearing the jackhammer got nerfed or something.

Yeah, the JH did get a slight nerf, whateva though, it still ownz indoors. The sweeper is also a very good indoor gun, but you tend to run out of ammo when fighting multiple foes. Hope that helps. Oh yeah, and if you have the HA cert, then you can loot the other empires HA weapons which, in most cases, are better suited for battle, so either way, it's worth the high cost of 4 cert points IMO.
