Music is a huge part of my life, I'm always listening to it (as many of you who talk to me on TS already know this as it's blarring in the background). I'm curious to see everyones music tastes and maybe catch wind of some new bands I may like.
List your favorite bands (top 10, top 20, top 30, whatever) and favorite songs. Everyone, please participate. Should be fun.
I'll post later, heading to bed now.

Right now I am completely sick of american music(I havent listened to US music for 8 months already)
Right now Im listening to Japan Music such as JPop,Jrock and Anime OSTs and soundtracks.....
Right now im listening to Dir En Grey (Jrock band, singer throws up in front of people when he starts off a concert and a guys real name is "Die")
As for JPop, its this Little Japanese girl group called Morning Musume(they bring me laughter everyday cause of the way they sound and how their music videos never relate to their lyrics lol)
I dont really care about the lyrics in the songs I just like the sounds they put out in songs

Check out Launch on Yahoo! Excellent streaming radio where you rank artists/songs/albums and the radio station remembers your prefrences and suggests other music based on your ranking and the rankings of others. Really cool shit and its free if you can stand the 45second advertisements, if not pay and go ad free with the ability to skip as many as you'd like.
As for bands I'm listening to now, my boy Lil Jay (Iccullus) got me listening to 89.5 WSOU Seton Hall College Radio alot lately, been listening to all these little known punk/emo/scremo bands like Alkaline Trio, My Chemical Romance, No Motiv, The Early November, Matchbook Romance, Sense Fail, A Static Lullaby etc etc.
But my real shit is the Long Beach sound a type or reagee/punk/dancehall hybrid made popular by bands like Sublime and Authority Zero. If you guys are like me and love to chill, talk-shit w/ your boys and get high then you will LOVE this sound. Check out these bands: Slightly Stoopid (a little on the mellow side), Pepper (pure party fun), Bargain Music (a little jazzy, this guys got a horrendous voice but his lyrics are great lol), Long Beach Dub All-Stars (the rest of Sublime), Capitol Eye (these guys are a little more hardcore/rapish)

Gray, I mostly use IRC (on undernet) and I use to use Kazaa Lite some.
I'm all about punk, metal, hardcore, death metal, black metal, underground hiphop and some symphony shit.
Even though I usually hate what's played on the radio and rarely listen to it, some of my most favorite bands are quite popular:
Tool - been my favorite band for years, I don't think they've ever created a bad song
RATM - one of the best bands ever created, zach never wasted a word in his lyrics
Metallica - the old shit, everything up to the black album; I hate all that new garbage
Slipknot - BlackStar of DB actually got me into them, all their songs are pure madness
Primus - like RATM, I miss them, one of the truly unique bands ever
Bad Religion - been one of the best punk bands around for 20 years now
Other favorites:
NOFX
Rancid
A Perfect Circle
Blackalicious
Underoath
The Vandals

I like to listen to the older genre, stuff i grew up listening to, and i can still fondly remember the calls from neighbors when my dad played the music too loud. David bowie, Todd Rundgren, Styx, Queen, Yes, Genesis. If anyone has ever heard the labyrinth Cd, (from the movie) there is a nice song i particularly like called "Piece of Time"

this thread bothers me, 99% of you listen to nothing but MTV spawned aggro rock/rap.
best rock bands you've never heard of:
guided by voices
the wedding present
built to spill
yo la tengo
big black
the replacements
modest mouse
flaming lips (someone mentioned this)
fav hip hop stuff not mentioned:
the beatnuts
de la soul
mcenroe
cannibal ox
atmosphere
aggro rock/industrial stuff not mentioned:
COIL
wumpscut
isis
skinny puppy
ministry (and all its side projects)
entombed
...
i could go on (i have way too much music) but i don't expect any of you to seriously check these bands out. i don't think any of you have 'bad' taste in music, you're just ignorant and too dependant on corporate radio/MTV to find new music :p i used to love all the same shit you guys are into, and i still like a lot of it. i am a huge classic rock fan too, but there's so much great music out there that isn't played on the radio or MTV ever. so if you're looking for some new music one radio station i can recommend is http://somafm.com/indiepop.pls (enter in winamp)

The Flaming Lips are my favourite band of all time, and I have heard of the hip hop acts, I just wouldnt consider them my favourites so didn't bother to mention them.. and most of the other indie acts I listen to are Australian, so no use really giving them publicity here. heh.

How did you make a list like that?
If you use Winamp, then in your playlist window there is "misc" button.
Hit the "misc" button and go to "opts" (for options).
Select "Generate HTML playlist"
(I use Winamp 2.0, not sure if this is the same process for 3.0)
