Greetings Minions! The day has finally come when World of Warcraft is judged by those who truly COUNT! Yes, the one's who actually make the REAL decisions on whether THOUSANDS of players will play over a long period of time or not (and blueb guilds don't count IMHO). Yes sure, I know all of you will get WoW no matter WHAT I say, but the key is longevity and that key is held by the guilds. Longevity in MMP games comes from enjoying oneself in an organized unit which MAKES the game fun for it's members. This does not so much apply for the Bluebers as it does for us red nuts who enjoy slaughtering our fellow humans as an organized force. Agree or disagree as you wish, but I seriously doubt any MMP game will EVER succeed without a good base of guilds supporting them so it kinda' sucks Blizzard did not scarf over some guild beta accounts in what I suspect was an effort to squelch the squealing cry babies on their forums who don't have the history in gaming necessary to be part of such a thing.
Alright enough of the ranting, let's talk about the actual game some, eh? Well, to be blunt, it SUCKS. Yeah, you heard me, it BLOWS chunks! It's nothing better then a retarded EQ rip off with a lot more gimpy colors and repetitive gameplay that has you yawning within the second hour...
*cough*
Ok.....alright...I am still mad they did not give me special treatment. Fuckers. Alright, I suppose it's time to stop whining and spew out the truth. I know you have all read the numerous kissy lovey reviews from a plethora of other sites and places, so I am gonna skip all the details already out there and focus mostly on PvP potential (which is our interest to be sure). Let me first say that my previous paragraph is completely false. The game is actually incredible *wipes the brown stuff off his nose*. Even in it's present beta state it has FAR exceeded my expectations. I could go on all day about how nifty each feature is, but I think instead, since I am lazy and you have the attention span of a ping pong ball, I will just say it's awesome and you will like it. End of story. Plan on it. We will play this game. It is seriously fun and, unfortunately, addictive as hell. Speaking of which, you guys better get yer' shit done now, because when this sucker goes live, you are all gonna' prolly get fired or flunk out of school :D
I am not talkin' out my ass here, guys. As you know, I have played everything there is from UO and EQ to SB, DAOC, Lineage II beta and even KO (hell, even PS and BF Vietnam!) and this sucker is better then them all without a second thought. Sure, some of these games, (if not all) have some good points..even great ones, but none captured my attention and made me cry when I was not playing like this one. Some of you recall the first days of EQ when we sat for hours upon on hours in front of the monitor unable to get enough of the game. Well, here it is all over again. No shit, it's a hell of a piece of art work that the makers will be able to stand tall and say they were part of it's creation rather proudly. *wipes more brown stuff off*
Ok, just a couple of details I felt are important for PvPers: The graphics create a pretty nifty environment which truly makes you feel immersed in the game world. The colors are bright and contrast well with each other. The landscape is large so that you have a RL feeling of perspective on distances (which is HUGELY important for PvP). Why am I mentioning THS when I just said I was not going to be specific? Well, In EQ, one of the fundamental problems with PvP was losing sight of one¡¦s target because running around a corner, around a tree or over a hill would often make pursuit impossible. WoW seems to have resolved this issue in a satisfying way. Some of you Bluebs might understand what I am talking about if you recall trying to follow group members without using /follow. This is a fundamental flaw in EQ's PvP system which made melees so gimp (and subsequently caused the devs to overpower them to compensate).
Do I know how the balance will be? The high end gameplay? Blizzard's support of PvPers? Nah, mostly because all of this has not been finalized. What I can say is Blizzard seems to have a really nice base to work with which, given it is balanced properly (and I suspect it will based on their history), should allow for them to do something special for us. So, after finally playing WoW, I can say that I am still confident in our course and the selection of WoW as our next big game. We just have to hope they come up with a good PvP server. (I am still hoping for a faction based unlimited PvP system with no level restrictions or at the least a guildwars type of server).
Incidentally, I did have the opportunity to test the most important thing any PvPer needs to know about. Yep, the emotes. They are awesome! :) Shadowbane knew how important this was for PvPers and so to, it seems, does Blizzard. Hopefully, I will be able to get you fools to stop /dancing with each long enough to kill someone :P
In any case, I will keep you guys informed once the PvP begins and I start to get some info that is not splattered all over a billion other websites Mostly, I am looking forward to the announced beta PvP server which will give me a lot better information to go on. Until then, keep an eye on your emails for your beta accounts so you can check it out too!
