GM of Darkenbane steps down!

As many folks know, there is considerble derision in the guild presently regarding several issues not the least of which is our decision on which faction to play in World of Warcraft! Blood has been splilled and civil war has threatened to break out. In the end, however, and old dog has gotten beaten down by a growing number of dissidents within the guild. No leader will survive with his closest allies turnng away and I am no exception. To make a long story short, my tenure as GM of Darkenbane comes to end effective today and the guild moves on.

Some things you might already notice regarding my loss of control over the situation are the new ads which apparently are generating revenue for the guild website. Many folks have contributed funds directly to us for the website and the balance is somewhere in the neighborhood of $200. This money will be paid tot he ISP. No more contributions will be accepted by me and the upkeep of the site will be maintained by those involved now....even if it means some ugly banners are popping on our beautiful Darkenbane logo.

KAAOS could not defeat me. Ruin could not Defeat me. Rallos Zek (the entire server) could not defeat me. Discord (the entire server) could not defeat me. World of Warcraft's amazing game and the strong emotions and loyaties of the factions as crushed an old gaming dog. With that said, I bid you all adieu and good luck!

Note: I will stay on as a member, but I will be playing Alliance in WoW. If DB choses Horde, I will play some to hang out a bit with the crew (mebe a mage or something easy to play), but my true character will be Alliance. Also, the new leadership structure and/or whatever happens from here on out will no longer be my responsibility so please don't bug me about it. They will tell yah everything when they decide or figure things out.

well if its true its about time, your ridiculous decisions over the years has nearly destroyed the guild more than once and i always found it ridiculous that you could disband the guild over bio orbs on sullon then completely abandon said guild and never say a word to anyone in it for over a year then suddenly return as the "leader"

hopefully the new GM will be meter as he is the only one of the current officers imo who has the ability to get darkenbane back to what made all the old members enjoy it, i dont know eyepatch very well but he might be able to step up to the plate to.

I'm sorry to say it like this man...but it seems to me the only reason you're leaving is because you want to play Alliance in WoW and if Saradin was to win, you'd be playing horde...so this way ur in a win-win situation where either way u play alliance. Either way though, good luck with whatever path you choose.

Grayrage has contributed more to this guild then any other member and i hope he continues to do so one way or another. Being a GM is the hardest job in a guild and Grayrage has been doing this for several years now and has brought DB to where it is today. I would like to thank Grayrage for all his efforts and know he will stick around as fellow pk-er and friend.

This is crazy, alotta teh guilds gonna fall apart now, first we'll split into to smaller guilds one per faction then numbers will dwindle as other guilds are created...what happened to teh days of Rz Wipoleen, Daero, voltaic, genacide, bamkrak, guznuk, runya, latnim/mintal and all the rest of them, hardly any old schoolers are still here cept hama, fist and a few others, now even gray's gonna disapear into the fog of time. Its all going to shit, I need a cigarette...

The guild will not fall apart. This is why we have the charter to keep going regardless if the GM leaves, sucks, or if we dont even have one.

Gray has done an incredible amount for this guild - everyone should recognize and respect that. That being said, his resignation was the best thing for this guild at this point in time. The entire GM situation was getting out of control. This guild should not be controlled by an all-powerful master but rather a council of equally powerful Lords. Hopefully the 5 overlords will step up and run this guild as a democratic COUNCIL - the way it should be run! The guild WILL NOT fall apart - Darkenbane is in FABULOUS shape. If you believe this guild is in trouble because our GM (who will hopefully stay on) stepped down then your faith in Darkenbane, the overlords, and the democratic process is suspect and disheartening. There is no reason why this guild should not continue to get stronger.

If people were more loyal to Gray than to Darkenbane then he did what was best for this guild by stepping down. You all need to realize this is a community and one influential man/woman does not define who we are. It's the overlords down to the newbie members who make Darkenbane and shape its future. Hopefully a governing council will help to eliminate politics and bring the attention and loyalty back to the guild and not certain members.

Thanks for all your work Gray - hopefully you will stay on as an equal partner in this guild. Regarding WoW, not sure why playing a certain side in a game is more important than Darkenbane...

agreed, i will vote, but i think everyone should shut the hell up and go with whatever the majority choses.

as for the democracy thing detodos, its an idea built on the prospect that sicne it is ever changing it will last longer. However, in the case of guilds you do not have years to decide, and a dictatorship (with limited checks and balances) may be a better idea for quick decision making

And a governing council can make decisions very fast while eliminating the inevitable power abuse of a dictator.

I am sad to see Gray go after all the fun times we have had with him as leader. He poured a lot of his life into this guild and helped it grow to what it is today. However the guild should be lead by a council instead of an all powerful leader, there are just too many members with too many different opinions.

Gray, I have always had a ton of respect for you and your leadership, even when I didn't agree with your decisions. I really hope you remain as active as always in the guild. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into making DB the elite killing machine it is today.

Bro, the bottomline is this: You are arguably the biggest joke to ever grace the neutral team on Sullon Zek. You are right up there with Pseudein imho. What gives you the edge would be the amount of disbandings you did over greed and selfishness. You are a terrible Guild leader, and I can't comprehend how players still fly under your tag with you as leader. Do you think SZers remember you for your leadership skills? I am sorry to inform you this, but no. "Clearly a Darkenbane Victory(tm)" isn't really a complement to you. Nor is the way people remember you, meaning running away to Legends when the going got rough. More examples below:

WoW hasn't even gone live, and you are already quitting because things don't go your way. The trend you have managed to build up is amazing. You disband a whole Guild because a Bio Orb doesn't go your way, or you disband over 10 times because your alt cleric doesn't get ST loot over other Cleric mains. How about all the drama over the 5 DKP penalty points ToW gave to quitters?

Maybe you should allow me to enter Darkenbane. I call things as I see them, and I don't cheat. Two qualities this Guild apparently needs from members. But seriously, you need to step down (for good) as Leader and allow someone who isn't all for himself to take charge. Darkenbane isn't going anywhere with all your senseless drama.

I've been in DB a few times over the course of my EQ career pking in SK with Kerrygetz and Ever at level 16 by aviaks, fighting Lords of Law, all the way up till Sullon Zek, that's almost 5 years kiddies way before what is considered the old school DB now. Gray's always been a more then capable leader when compared to all the other guild leaders ever to form a guild in any MMORPG. I mean seriously think of all the guilds you've been in and how many of them still exist, probably none. It takes a motivated person to hold together a guild for as long as Gray has playing the "bad guys." If he's made some mistakes and misjudgements big deal. We all have. What more do you expect from one person who tries to maintain a group of people ranging in age from 9 to 40+, from different social classes, and parts of the world. Grayrage is DB he's the only one who's been there since the beginning, nobody should dictate to him what DB should or should not do period. It's laughable that a bunch of people think they can do a better job then Gray. He's gonna sit back let you people get a taste of what it's like to run a guild and then when you guys get sick of all the political BS he'll step backup and take the reigns and you will all be humbled. If you guys do manage to hold the guild together though and thrive I think everyone will be very impressed.

Guznuk was one of the funniest guys I ever hung out with (btw that wasnt quite old school) they were the south ro bums who never did anything but smoke up and make me laugh "afk to smoke a bowl" was the most common thing coming from guz fingers. The best ever was when me rahne agatha and guz were in less faydark guz spotted the pained unicorn for his firt time "I am having lunch with a Pained unicorn" he charged in we bolted.....
