Well this morning I was havin my morning cig and coffee and I pondered as to the origins of everyone's character names. Where did Stoffer come from? Is it Stoffers Pizzas? Or hell how bout Taerslaeyn??

I think this could be an interesting thread as long as it doesnt get derailed :P So plz post how you got your name :D

I'll go 1st. I had originally started on RZ as a Barb Shaman waaay back in early 98 named Longjohn, played with my rl brother and also my roomate as a trio of Barbs, levelled a bit with them an they both ended up quitting but had made other friends so I was hooked. A small group of us after fighting against many, many pks (Soyy, McClintok and Rafter were the main ones in EF at this point) we decided to make killers of our own, and chose Dark Races, and decided to name ourselves after comic book villains. I went obscure tho and chose a villain from Legion of super-Heroes, part of the fatal five, tho years later I would discover that it was spelled "Validus" and not "Vallidus", oh well...

Tareslaeyn came from a dark elf story book. Tareslaeyn was a beautiful dark elf girl that enjoyed to torture slaves that her brothers captured,and bring terror to her victims so I picked the most beautiful dark elf girl {well aren't they all pretty sexy ?? heh},and called her Tareslaeyn Darkenbane. She would PK,and still get away with getting groups lol I guess it's because Tare was a female ...

Well i was leveling at Highkeep once Tare turned level 20s-30s,and alot that were in my group never knew I was a pker but always questioned the Darkenbane surname lol I would reply "I never heard of Darkenbane,and made up the name" lol

So I am using the Darkenbane surname,and getting mad exp until my 40s,and until I get conflag to really wreck some havoc !!! Once I hit 44 I am killing everyone,and getting some loots until one day Jihadforpussies heh AKA Haan AKA Konstance tells me I should go anti,get my epic,and try to get in a decent raid guild so I can get geared up uber,have my epic {that 800 hps extra definately was a must}

So I decide to hit TD,and level at spirocs,and get to 49 lol I hit 49,and decide to rid the Darkenbane name,and since I am going to be using "Ice Comet",I decided it will be perfect to be called "Tareslaeyn Darkfrost which meant...Dark =Dark elf,Evil ...frost =my freeze from my ice comet lol

So I decide to join the antis,and start hanging with my good friends Noxule aka Oponox,and Sighko AKA Sighkox {they got banned so they created new toons},and Insanity's Edge wanted Tare as a recruit heh To put it I was a carebear bluebie poon lol

Next I hit Everfrost,and piss off Artful Death somewhat terrible which leads to pissing off HIV,FOH etc etc all the pkers hate my fucking guts now since I am a shit talking anti LOL

Than one day.......a God by the name of Innuendo {Matt heh}decides to bring Darkenbane back to RZ,and since the GMS wouldn't allow Darkenbane it was called "Darkenbane Company" lol

So were all pking,and my ex friend Ghecko decide to start pking with me,than Vallidus heh joins,than all the old DBers decide to participate in major pking at Velks lol Even Rykker returns on Runya !!! OMGGG Vallidus,me Hama,Ghecko,Aristobulus etc etc etc had a ball at Great Divide !!! I remember me and Hama went all the way to the top ledge,and wiped out like 2 people,and got down safely,it was such an adrenaline rush !! Hama had her whip,and blinded the two while I nuked,such fun !!

Next minute LV and I am fighting,and once again all the pkers hate Tare so I decide to put Tare aside,and create my new SK DE Chic ...Prettywicked Bloodbarbie

I used to play SC hardcore, and was one of the best in the time that I played. I played under various nicks during beta (Ctu, Terrenghost) and was quite highly ranked. Season 1 I broke into top 10 as Zergsmurf or something to that effect. Anyways i wanted a different nickname for second season of ladder, and I had always been an ancient greek buff of somesort (if you really could be at 14). Archons were also one of the most powerful units in the game. Archon and Archons were already taken, so I modified it to Arkons.
I made it to the #1 position on the bnet ladder that year, and so the rest of my starcraft career I went by Arkons, arky, or arkz. I tried to switch back to Ctu for EQ as an SK. (the nick I had previously been known by for a number of years to friends) I quit the SK at level 8, and decided Arkons would be a cool name for a wizard. I was also #1 case's ladder as Arkons as well.

when i first got EQ sometime in middle school Nexex was a high elf mage named Templton (back when mage pets caused exp death ect:P) and told me to roll a wizard and make it something with a T and i was in such a rush to play this new game that i had bought that i just settled on taar the first coherant thing i could think of (i also put all my points into wisdom...and charisma i think...i was a erudite wizard with like low 100's intel LOL) i made it to 51 tho...so fuck it

Arnald's name came from an account carnacki gave to me to take over payment on he was originally like level 13 i think with no gear i leveled him to 50 and got him full resist gear ect.

i got the game 4-5 years ago when i was in 9th grade, at the time i play'd eq with 2-3 other people who went to the same school. we were re/rolling characters 1 day and i decided to make a mage, no idea what in he hell to name it. so me being hte smartass that i am i named him ehssux or Ehs(the highschool we went to) sux. thats my first name. come lvl 20 i had to chose a surname and the name thing wouldnt let me put in royalass, i put royalazz. about 4 months later a gm took my z's and i am till this day known as Ehssux Royala

heh Templen lol I first met Nexex when he was playing Templen in Dark Unity,and I was Sinista. Templen got banned I think,and than Nexex rolled a ranger woodelf named Arrowaw or something like that heh I pled him at the treants on Insidiouz by using charm lol

Than he rolled a wizard named Nexex,and was so excited he started reciting his own version of "the night before Xmas" only with a gnome version lol It was like this "Twas the night before Xmas,and all through the zones not a creature was staring, just a naughty little murderous gnome" lol

Don't worry lol I about messing up Taar lol I put more stamina than intelligence into my wizard Mafiosi Gotti.....I did it for more hps but I was suffering with mana until I got my SMR,GE boots etc etc....

Sure it was great to have lots of extra hps with added hp items but the mana was a bitch...

So I decide I wanted to try a mage since the pet causes exp loss like you said Arnald heh So I take all Gotti's gear off him,and put it all on Sinista.

One day me and Razy are totally corpse camping this ebayed punk wizard at perma in everfrost named Vaja,and we make out with a fbss,a runed cowl,a froggy,and a bone caster robe {back than very hot items}

Razy snared his ass,dotted him up, pumiced him off,and I stuck my air pet on him,and we got busy nuking...the asshole was dead in seconds,and we looted his Bonecaster robe first thing lol

Than we waited till he came back to loot,same system rinse and repeat,looted all the good shit he was wearing,and the fbss was in the morons inventory hahah

So we get carried away,GM comes,Vaja crys,and whines that we were illegally CCINg him,and next minute an Ice Giant comes out of nowhere,and kills me and Razy.

GMS summon us,and we are suspended for a week,and guess what happens to our loot ??? Rots to nothing !!!!

So I am like FUCK TIS !!! I am going to fuck the mage,and create an ENC so I can be like Rykker lol

Well more Insidiouz my ENC has nothing to wear due to the fact Sinista was wearing my good shit that Mafiosi used to pimp out,and Gotti is butt ass naked so I delete his ass at level 34...

I eventually created another Gotti except hes a dark elf lol I even have a solist icy on him lol those were so fucking hot back in the day !!!!

I remember battling with rafter for the longest time (He ganked my + 5 mana braclet ..LOL (around '99 in EF) I just used Leebowitze for board names mostly ( name came from a salesman who I worked with always would play with my real name LEE , Hey leebo leebo leebowitze. dam name stuck with me.

My other chart Igot was just a play off my friends chart whogot (talking about bud ;)
and my first gimped out wizard Stickyfingers came from a rapper during that period

I dont know how I came to Perturbed , maybe because my friend would say to me man you look perturbed and disturbed ..

This is going to be a good thread as long as it doesn't get derailed.
So I came up with the name Hannibal b/c back then I was still in highschool. We were on the unit of Hannibal of carthage, and my wizard just so happened to be a black man. Haha. So anyway, it was my experience that the pkers of blackburrow and West Karana all picked on the little guy, just like fucking rome picked on Carthage. So I made a wizard named Haanibal ( hannibal was already taken) i lvled him up, and came back to Blackburrow almost on a daily basis to wash out the pkers ( Dies iraes, Cohorts of Gashang) Only to later on find out that my guild was going to boot me claiming I had enjoyed pking to much, And on more than one occasion I was caught exping w/ Jovan Marrs. Then Haanibal the Pker was born.
I also play under the alias Ender, which I played under on UO and will most likely bring back for WoW. I chose this name based on Ender's Game. Don't know if you've ever read it, but it's by Orson Scott Wells. It talks about a race war between humans and Aliens, and how we breed children to be geniuses. So we can win the war, but the whole time the government is putting Ender Wiggin through tests of trial and error. His whole life turns out to be one big game, leading to the extinction of the alien race. I like to name my char's after dominant figures, besides the names fit the characters, and it's part of the roleplaying. :)

I got my name from a SNES game called Ogre Battle. It was the first strategy game I ever played where you manage an army and conquer lands and still control the battles via turn based fighting and tarot cards you got from liberated towns. Anyways, at some point along in the storyline you hear of a great wizard named Saradin who was turned to stone by his master ( end boss of the game ) for refusing to go through with his evil plans and you have to go find out which one of the four statues is the correct one. Once you liberate him, he joins your army and needless to say his stats were just ridiculous. So I turned him from wizard->mage->necromancer->lich which was the most powerful caster but who lost his soul to become a cold blooded killer. I then took that party to the last guy for an interesting dialogue and completely destroyed him. When I started playing muds/EQ/SB/etc, I needed to assume the name of something badass and try to live up to that name. I've gone by Saradin ever since and done quite well ^_^

A friend of mine created a character , called "Lorlums" for some kind of rpg, that I can't remember the name of. It's hard to translate but it is the name of a snack here called Smulrol, roughly translated in Yummyroll. It even sounded like a good RPG name (if you pronounce it in dutch that is). I don't know why but it became a trend. From then on we named all our characters after snacks but spelled backwards. We had names like Ledakirf (Untranslatable), Reg rubmah, Seirfh cnerf etc.

I started playing EQ as a ranger but then Meter told me that rangers sucked and Druids where the way to go. So I created one and was about to name him after a meaty-snack when I suddenly realised that he would probably be a vegetarian so I called him Rabdallas (His last name was going to be E'erf).

Yeah, just like Vallidus I misspelled it and it took me over two years to figure that out.

edit: WTF I misspelled Vallidus.. =/

Ogre Battle is one of my favorite games ever. If you liked ogre battle you may want to try a game called Dark Omen which is kinda the same theme but is more interactive. Ogre Battle brings back so many memories.

Mine isn't near as interesting but it comes from my UO days when I was really in to Rage Against the Machine and named my character after the lead singer, Zack De La Rocha.

I haven't used the name in about 3-4 years though, everyone just knows me by it in IRC and UO, so I just use it on message boards etc.

Way back at the start of eq, on my server there was a family called the Soulmenders, who i think at the time were just 4, Jiae, Riae, Biae , and something else soulmender. So, we decided, (My dad, and two older brothers) we needed a name as well, So, in about 1998-99 we chose the name Jihads, because it meant holy war. So there we were, Flanagan Jihads, a dwarven paladin, Beolan Jihads, Sonfyre Jihads, and finally, the youngest being me, i was a gnomish magician named Snakkpack Jihads ( I had unknowingly named myself after a gnomish warrior , who had even been in the same guilds as me beforehand. Sometime later though the family name fell apart, Flanagan quit, and after 9/11 Beolan changed his name not wanting to be associated, and Sonfyre (dad) and myself both took a lot of hits for having the last name jihads, shortly after i made my cleric Glutton but by that time jihads had been added to the naming filter and i can no longer get the name.

And the closest thing i always thought of tareslaeyn's name came to me when me and VIktoire were talking about old Super heroes, Terri Slone(SP) was the original Mr. Terrific from the JSA

When I first started out on mud's and message boards like 4-5 years ago, I went by the name Ellonwy - which was the name of a female character in a book series that I had read when I was younger. Naturally she was the only female in the book and she was a rather cleaver character. But the name always got misspelled and I lost interest in it and decided to come up with a different name.

That was when I concocted the name Celestia. I was merely thinking of words and then one popped into my head: Celestial, meaning "relating to the sky; heavenly" but I usually associated it with a more astrological meaning. So I changed the ending of the word by removing the "L" and then it sounded like a name. :D

well.... Ewwok comes from starwars... if u guys dont know that i will kill u IRL... i made an assling druid so naturally hairy feet and ewoks came to mind... so i just made ewwok heh plus they were treehuggers so it all came toghether nicely... Then i went with Ewwok Carebear cuz i swear carebears are the nasties fuckers around man... jeez that carebear stare scared the shit out of me... so i figured id go with a nasty little staring ewok which would pwn the crap out of anyone.. but they thought i was all fuzzy and nice... NOT! ha! i showed them =P but i really want to name my next character Captain Jack Sparrow! cuz hes soooo cool

Though Torian is only 1 of my names that i use. It comes from the SNES game Super Metroid its the name of the last level. The entire level was impossibly deadly the first time i got there( for those who know of the game, i had an astonishing 41% completion score). Bubbling lava, life draining metroids, and of course mother brain all make it a fun place to die. anyhow i didnt think Mother brain would be much of a name so i took the name of the whole level. Hoping that i would live up to the name, as Immpossibly deadly.

what Awakened really means is that one day he woke up and saw a man next to him naked... he was obviously naked too... and it then occured to him.. BAM! im gay! and he was awakened from his dream thinking he was actually straight... and now he knows the truth... he is gay!

I put so much thought into most of my characters names it's not even funny, all with hidden meaning for threads just like this.

Rahne Sinclair: Rahne Sinclair was a character from the X-men line of books. her codename was Wolfsbane, and she was a chick who could turn into a wolf. When I rolled a druid, I locked onto the fact that they had wolfform, and it just took from there.

Morphaeus: This was rather simple, my character was an enchanter, and his ability to use illusions or "morph" combined with the fact that the matrix was just out combined for a super name. Fun fact: I had this guys name changed back in the day, and a GM did it with no problems, I cited roleplaying reasons, his original name was Silverbolt which was the leader of the Aerialbots from transformers. But the name didnt really fit the character.

Abominus: Any ogre/shaman I make will have this name. This is also from transfomers, a gestalt from the Terrorcons.

Persephonae: My necro, most people can probably guess this one, but it's from greek mythology. Persephone was the daughter of the goddess of the harvest (name is escaping right now Demeter I think) Hades kidnapped her and tricked her into eating a pomegranate seed, (the food of the dead) which meant she had to stay in hell with him. Her mother protested and would not let the crops grow for the people, Zeus intervened and said because she didn't eat the seed willingly, she only had to spend half the year in Hell, and the other half with her mother. That is why we have fall and winter, spring and summer. Fall and winter is when she is away from her mother, Spring and summer when she returns. Persephonae is always labeled as the Queen of the dead, hence, my necro.

Feltersnatch: This was changed after about a month, no description required. :)

Murddoc: This character (was dwarven cleric) was originally named Heinieken, but was changed by the GMs. I petitioned to have his name renamed to Murddoc cause at the time I was a big fan of the Gorillaz music group, and Murdoc was one of the band members.
