I’d like to give you a quick review on WoW.

I havn’t played WoW for about a month, and here is the simple reason why:
WoW brings nothing new to the table. Absolutely nothing.

Mention one thing that’s new and revolutionary. Seriously. Every game so far has brought something new to excite gamers, something never seen before. EQ had big scale raids, AC had an alternative guildstructure, SB had citybuilding and so on. I think WoW may be the first not to introduce anything. Nothing at all (and don’t give me that gimpy quest system).

WoW relies heavily on taking the best concepts from other games and improving them. There is nothing wrong with that, actually it ensures a very enjoyable game. It’s safe, fun, already has pvp and it will sell like a motherfucker. Hell, i’m taking a week or two off at realese to powergame.

I just don’t want to spend my time testing something i’ve alrady done x number of times on x number of games. It is the same fucking xp grind that we have all tried a handfull of times before. Actually, the new Everquest expansion; The New Moon of Velious With The Kunark Discord Quest For More Money, might bring more new stuff to the table than this beta test.

Release = Teh win
Beta = So boring that I tried to kill myself with a pencil the last time I logged on.

I agree with you whole heartedly that they arn't really doing anything new here. In my eyes, Blizzard has always been an innovator of games, making things that have never been done before or weren't done correctly. Their games are always bestsellers and always new and inventive. World of Warcraft, you are correct, is not new and inventive, but they are capitalizing and trying to fix/make better a genre that needed help. While not holding true to being something new, (what do you want? Isn't this mainly a mmorpg guild? Well maybe not when you consider Planetside and CS...) I think they will be holding up to their standards of quality.

Whereas you tried w/ a pencil I tried and failed w/ teh shoelace. Anyways, I do agree but I think it is necessary and will pay off in the long run. Fortunately for me I found a class that I love and am hard pressed to learn everything about it. As for game content, I'd say I know all of it both horde/alliance sides except for the new content last patch of BRD and Ungoro Crater. But yeah, beta is boring. I spend more time talking to devs than I do playing cuz I want to make sure this game is fuckin worth it and I hope they listen.

I started with stress test today, but I agree. It's more of the same.. less hassle, better graphics, better quest systems, but, ultimately, you kill the same thing over and over again to get experience and you kill other bigger things to get special gear.

But, then again, what's the alternative? What is it we're missing that we're not getting?

I think the answer is a decent pvp system - one that combines the skill of pvp games with this quest and story stuff. I want games that require me to achieve the element of surprise and centre a cursor on a target and make the right strategic and tactical selections and work with others in different roles all supporting each other, as well as a fully immersive environment that allows me to develop a stronger character through superior play. But I'm not sure... I just know it's missing something.

Yea guys, it's not that I dislike WoW, I just think that the beta is boring as hell. I'm as psyched as anyone for release, but you just won't see me in beta.

while that may be true, are we still going to look at other games for pvp? because there are a couple MMORPG's for PVP coming out that hold promise, though, Like the GUcomics present, Most of them have died, however one i think that holds a good deal of promise would be City of Heroes depending on how they work out the PVP issues, that and i figured out how to make a darkenbane related costume for an SG were we to play.

We are still on for WoW. Obviously we always keep our eyes open for good games, but WoW is where we are headed. What I wrote was about the beta and not the finished game, which i'm really looking forward to.

Damn straight Asto, look foward to more bloodshed, hopefully in open beta but if not retail :) I wanna play so damn bad, bastards got me good n hooked.

And Im torn on Hunters, sure Taurens get guns, but orcs just look so pimp, may be worth blowin 60skill pnts to use guns on an orc :P Be easy if we went alliance tho, dorfs get guns there, an theyre my fave outta all the races :P (small, hard to target, an look funny as hell)

Did I miss what side we are going or have we not picked yet? I likes the undead. They look bad ass as mages but I'm willing to try anything once. Plus the undead city is just omg awsome.

technically we haven't picked - or at least not anything public, but most of the overloards and the core that are in game have made up their own minds :)

The only other games that look exciting are guildwars and darkfall online.
