I'm curious. I wasn't around much before it went down, what did the flowers do that pissed him off so much? It seems like he's reserving a perfectly good domain name for a site with such inconsistencies.

A bunch of FOH kept crying about the site and telling Datal how he should run the site that he chooses to run for free, which seemed pretty odd to me, considering they could have just left and quit reading the site.

Then Datal started a survey to try and gauge if people felt the site should be kept up or not and, according to him, FOH linked the survey to their site or something, thereby rigging the voting to their favor. In turn, he banned all FOH from the site. I've been gone for a week, but that was the last I heard.

A couple of gay things about the situation....(1) FOH crying like a bunch of pansies about a site they can very well choose to avoid (2) Datal apparently becoming over-emotional and closing the site due to the actions of the aforementioned pansies. So, if there intent was to close the site, appears they won. Not sure if that's what Datal intended, but rather what he has achieved.

Exactly, Scurry, though I think that sort of thing was what the Flowers had in mind all along (they'd been banned previously, threatened with perma-ban.. etc.). I normally appreciate some of the FoH humor (when it's done well - there are obviously a few "key" figures in the organization amidst a great deal of.. less entertaining members), and can't even say that this was really their fault... After all, as you said, Datal seriously went over the edge on this one.

Disappointing that he did so, but not alot we can do about it at this point.. unless, of course, you'd like to email him requesting that he put the OOC board etc. back up. I've already done so, and if more do.. well, then perhaps he will. He's easily influenced by simple requests / criticisms, it seems...

Having heard of the "Flower Bannings" I dropped by the RZ board to read up on it.

Sheesh... Every post -- in every thread I saw -- written by someone with a Flowery name had been edited/removed.

That was a little nuts, yes, but it gets better. Datal had gone so far as to mention his intent of banning folks with a public email address (ie: Hotmail, Yahoo, etc) in order to assure a Flower Free environment.

This prompted me to comment -- Here's the post in it's entirety:

I haven't been following the developments of this affair closely, and it's only thanks to Nnuk that I came in touch with this thread. I must say I had somewhat suspected the reasons that lead to the closure of the site, since it's not the first time this happens.

All I can say is that I am hardly surprised... might I point out that this (http://boards.gamers.com/messages/overview.asp?name=rzooc) board never closed down, despite people leaving it. ;)

I could be sorely mistaken, and if I am, this point is moot, but I don't recall anywhere seeing Datal saying that he represented all of Rallos Zek. He provided a site for players of our server to come, post, sell and debate. As with any site or establishment controlled by an individual, the whims and desires of the proprietor are likely to become evident in the product. Summary here, the site was Datal's site, to do with as he pleased, not the "Official" Rallos Zek site run by Verant, Sony or some other recognized entity.

Secondly, your examples, the pool, elevator and neighborhood, are moot. Think a bit harder next time and you might be able to come up with some appropriate examples. Listen up, boy. Your examples would be more accurate if they stated............

That paragraph pretty much sums up this whole debate. You fail to understand logical thought. You have grasped onto a tangent of the debate and completely missed the entire jist of the argument. Tell me where I said it's acceptable to fart in an elevator? Tell me where I said it and then tell me where that was ever the point of the argument? You can't, because I didn't. The point of the argument was not whether I think it's acceptable. It has nothing to do with my perceived acceptance of the event. First of all, free speech, as espoused in our Constitution, has barriers in the domain of private ownership. Secondly, I don't recall seeing anywhere on that site a sign that read "REPRESENTING EVERY PERSON ON RALLOS ZEK". Must have missed that one.

As a matter of fact, Datal has deleted several of my posts, including at least one about Ashlain. So, as I have been impacted, should I let emotion supersede logical thought and alter the root of the issue? Emotion can't change the fact that it's his site and he can do whatever he pleases. Emotion can change the fact of whether or not you decide to piss and moan about it, but the root of the argument remains unchanged. Emotion and logic seldomly go hand in hand.

They weren't even really arguments. They were emotional, crybaby outbursts as far as I'm concerned. As we have seen, Soupy has clung to tangents of an issue in a futile attempt to leach out some more pissing and moaning and has failed to address any core issues. My summation that his argument was weak came only after one of his extremely poor rebuttals that addressed nothing I had previously mentioned and then distorted the issue to better suit his poor rationale. There was nothing left to respond to, other than to express a general opinion about his entire, sorry state.

Legally... Scurry's point is unquestionable. Datal currently owns the rz.net domain and -- as Scurry correctly pointed out -- he can turn the main page into a 24/7 streaming video of a jack-off club's events, if he likes.

But morally/ethically? In this particular instance Vova does indeed have a viable point because the only reason Datal "owns" rz.net is because the previous owner (Petunia) apparently went nuts and Datal was the guy who took it over in order to preserve -- and even add too -- it's integrety.

So Scurry's argument would hold up in court and Vova's wouldn't -- But that hardly makes Vova a 16 year old granola crunching socialist and it doesn't make him "wrong" either.
